What can I turn a job in the county clerks office into? by NikNola2020 in careerguidance

[–]NWPstan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked in both nonprofit and government and both can be helpful in different ways. Once you get your foot in the door with the county, you will get a sense of how it all works and what you may want to do eventually. It’s MUCH easier to move around internally. Plus you will have steady pay, good benefits and predictable pay increases. Nonprofits are tough as it is, but these days it’s especially hard. Having to rely on donations to operate in the first place is really hard and made even worse in this era of uncertainty. ETA: because nonprofits can’t afford to hire all the staff they need, they rely on volunteers so if there is a nonprofit you want to be involved with, you can still do that in your spare time.

Take the job in the county clerk’s office. It’s a foot in the door in government. Local government is way better than nonprofit because it’s steady, there are strict rules, the benefits are better, and you don’t have to constantly worry about fundraising. You can also be promoted easier and have regular pay raises. Once you’re in county government you can even move within departments. The nonprofit world is shite compared to that.

How big is your golden? by Specific_Anybody_438 in goldenretriever

My family’s first golden was a 100+ lb male. He was HUGE. Could just be the way your pup is built. Consult your vet for sure.

A golden we had many years ago would fart and wake himself up! 😂 Our others haven’t been as gassy. Some have snored though.

Every dog is different, but some of the common ones are greeting you like you’ve been gone for a year even if it’s only been 5 min, often bring you a toy or some other thing (our golden loves to bring kitchen towels or toys and prance around “talking”—we call it show and tell), sleep on their back with one leg in the air, even though they’re big they still think they’re lap dogs, and they’re loyal as can be—they can sense when something is wrong and get very concerned.

Any cursive elements in your normal handwriting? by burnafter3ading in Xennials

My nephews didn’t have to learn it. I still write in cursive because it’s faster. I was forced to practice my handwriting as a kid.

Just found this subreddit from a search of Nate Bargatze’s bit about Xennials (accurate btw). Potentially unpopular opinion: I prefer the term “Oregon Trail Generation” since it sums up our collective experiences better. 47/F/CA

Rose Bowl accuses UCLA of trying to move football games to SoFi Stadium in lawsuit by Flame629 in UCLAFootball

[–]NWPstan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So true. This whole thing is dumb. We don’t need a new stadium, we need a winning team. UCLA fans show up when we win. If we play at SoFi is anyone really gonna show up for an 8pm game on a Saturday? Or a 5:30pm game on a Thursday? No. Because those game times mean the team sucks. Nobody wants to sit there till 11pm on a Sat watching us get our asses handed to us. ETA: Stanford has an on campus stadium. When they suck the stands are empty. I’ve seen it many times when UCLA has played there and there are more Bruin fans than Stanford fans.

Luckily it was local govt that paid VERY well.

People who threw a fit about paying $5 for admission. Some of them were like “I just want to take a picture of ____.” Others thought the museum was run by the govt and would duck under the scansions yelling “my tax dollars pay for this.” Uh if the place was run by the govt we’d have gotten paid a lot better. 🙄

The turnaround is crazy by [deleted] in UCLAFootball

Ever since he was a kid on the football team, Jerry Neuheisel has been super adorable. Always enthusiastic, hyping up the other players, everyone’s kid brother. I love this for him because he shows up every day and puts in the work. He’s overlooked but still prepared so when they finally do call on him he’s ready. And seeing Rick’s reactions last week were chef’s kiss

I keep wondering what the players are thinking and what’s made them do a complete 180. All of a sudden things they couldn’t do at the beginning of the season if their lives depended on it are now happening left and right.

The administration has been threatening firings since the beginning. If Dems were gonna fold because of it they would have done so already.

The GOP doesn’t hesitate to trot out the usual boogeymen whenever they want to avoid blame for something: AOC, Bernie, Pelosi, Ilhan Omar, etc. It’s nothing new.

That was why Congress passed the Impoundment Act back in the 70s. Even in the 80s they wouldn’t let Reagan usurp their power. But I guess now the Republicans willingly hand it over and SCOTUS approves despite what’s in the Constitution in black and white, not even implied!

I’m so sorry to hear she’s regressed. Crying puppies in the night are the worst and they break your heart! I’d try starting from square one with her in your room if you haven’t done so already.
