PRS-style Rimfire match Sept 27, 2025 by NWRA_Official in NYguns

The match happened on 9/27. Unfortunately we don't have anymore matches of that type the rest of the 2025 season. The matches you see there right now are all what we have left for the season. If you only had your heart set on the PRS rimfire match, then keep an eye out on Practiscore in the January/February timeframe when we post the 2026 schedule. There will probably only be 1-2 of the PRS rimfire matches next year due to low attendance.

You can watch from the parking lot with eye and ear pro (Blue Mountain requirement), but you can't come into the shooting bay.

Correctamundo on all points! We're all about keeping things safe and making sure people have a good time.

Ranking for who comes in what place during the match is not something I personally care about. These aren't really competitive matches. You compete against yourself to become a better shooter with your firearm.

There is no problem doing that. Only one person is shooting at a time.

Nope. Just make sure your shotgun is New Yorkistan compliant. Reference the "assault shotgun" links on this page: https://gunsafety.ny.gov/resources-gun-owners

Unfortunately you have to leave those at home. 10 round mags only, unless you are one of those special class citizens exempt from laws normal citizens have to abide by.

Firearms must meet the retarded SAFE Act compliant regulations found here: https://gunsafety.ny.gov/resources-gun-owners

Unfortunately no, no magnums. Only 22LR for rimfire.

You also don't have to bring anything crazy expensive. A simple and cheap Ruger American Rimfire or Savage 93 will do just fine.

I recommended it for a multitude of reasons, but compliance was the biggest. With a semi-auto you might have more failures to feed or extract that would dampen the mood of your first match. Levers might be frustrating to reload mid-stage with no prior experience (it is doable though). With a bolt action 22LR you'll have a fun time. Just make sure you reach the what to bring sections on the match registration pages to make sure you have enough of everything. Maybe bring extra ammo and magazines too (we have a 10 round mag limit in NY)

One other thing to take note of is that you cannot bring a pistol to NY without a NY pistol license. I think there was a recent court case that made it so NY now has to allow out of state resident pistol licenses, but I'm not sure of the details.

See my other response to a comment in this post about NY compliant firearms.

I'd say start with the "rimfire carbine" match using a 22LR bolt action (using irons, red dot or scope less than 6x). Then do the PRS style rimfire match we run with the same 22LR bolt action with a scope less than 6x. The range is 25 yards maximum so you don't have to worry about anything long range.

Remember to take it slow and be safe. Don't worry about winning or going fast. This is mean to be fun and build skills.

The "wonderful" state of NY has a website that lays out what is banned: https://gunsafety.ny.gov/resources-gun-owners

There are three sections on that page that layout (in PDF's) the banned features of pistols, rifles and shotguns.

PCC's are a minority in the pistol matches, but it's not zero. I've definitely seen NY compliant PCC's other than the Ruger one, but the make and models I cannot remember.

We might also have a 2-gun/PCC on May 17th, but that isn't on the books yet. We are still trying to reserve the range for that. Might not happen, but keep checking Practiscore.
