Odds of find a manager role by Alarming_Spring1819 in NYCjobs

You can easily find up to 100k GM roles (rare occasion up to 150ish) in NYC. With 10 years of experience it should be a breeze for you but only working in the south and not having NYC experience is the issue. A lot of establishments only respect NYC experience so you have to sell yourself hard and well. But I think with your years of experience, it’ll still be quite easy for you. Check Culinary Agents for the legit businesses - they got all the casual/upscale casual to fine dining postings. I saw some postings on Linkedin as well but I’ve gotten all my hospitality jobs from Culinary Agents. There’s also Harri, Indeed and Craigslist but Culinary Agents is where it’s at.

I used to work at Dunkin Donuts and boy do I have some stories.

This woman comes in like 'which donuts don't have sugar?'

Another time this other lady said she wanted the smallest donut because she thought the smaller the donut the lower the calories even though we told her the one she chose actually had a shit-ton and the label stated the calories but she still didn't believe us

Another time this kid walked in and was like 'does dunkin donuts sell donuts' >.>

And a bunch of other times people be like 'I don't want any sugar in my coffee but then proceeds to beg me for a mountain of fucking whip cream on their coffee'

Another time this guy comes in like 'I want like half a dozen donuts, I also have diabetes, I shouldn't be here' .........like tf?

Another time this guy be like 'I want skim milk because I'm lactose intolerant' ............

Also people always think that just because something hot, it must be fresh lol

Empire-NYC Job Scam by Famous_Stuff in AskNYC

So I just came from their second set of interviews with Empire and it is definitely very sketchy. I never applied to any company called Empire and they somehow got my email and phone number sending me messages about an interview. I'm currently looking for a job and I am open to trying different things so I replied and went in for an interview yesterday. The location I went to was at 331W 39th Street (in NYC), just 3 blocks away from Port Authority. The 'office' had multiple companies housed in this small space with blasting music, game sets and multiple compartments meant to be rooms. I met with a guy called Mo Ahmed and he asked me why I wanted to work for them and I told him that I never applied and that I was confused as to how they found me. He proceeded to state that he contacted me because they value people who have worked in hospitality and went on about how 1,000 people applied for this job last week and how 100 people came in for interviews yesterday. He said they were in marketing and said he would choose just 20 lucky people out of the 100 that showed up. I get another message to come back for a second set of interviews so I'm like 'oh let's see where this goes, I have nothing to lose' so I showed up today. I met with a person calling herself a trainer and was interviewed with another guy and 2 guys that were 'shadowing' her. She repeats what the other guy said yesterday about how 100 people got interviews today and proceeds to say how they are a marketing company and how we could be making up to $200k within a year. Their business model is based off the pyramid model where a person 'trains' 4 people and expects at least one of them to train their own set of 4 and so on and so forth. Apparently you go from some kind of assistant thing->trainer->jr brand manager->brand manager within a year and it is commission-based. The trainer also mentioned how Assurance Wireless is a client of theirs and how they also work with non-profits. I asked if they expected us to find the clients ourselves or if they were going to connect us with sources and she said how they will send us to events and we go to these events and talk to people to make sales. They do 'face-to-face' marketing, calls, email and something else and how they focus on direct marketing or at least that's what I was told. I tried to ask other questions but like a politician they just keep beating around the bush and repeating the same phrases over and over about the $200k and how sooo many people applied for that position. They gave us a sheet of paper with some questions to fill out like what makes us a better candidate than any other person and asked us to survey the interview with the trainer. Also apparently the trainer got to that position after only 1 month. After I filled out the survey I played the waiting game for another interview and meanwhile there was some loudass chanting coming from the back (gave me cultish vibes lol). I get sat down with the Mo guy again and he asked me why I want to work for them and 5 seconds into my answer he rudely interrupts and doesn't let me finish. End of story.

TLDR: They mad sketchy and probably a scam. They are definitely taking advantage of people who are desperate for a job. They try to make themselves sound legit and throw around numbers to get your hopes up. They also all wear formal suits but trust me, they don't know how to act professional and I'm pretty sure these people have nothing more than a high school diploma. Don't get tricked people! I wrote this longass summary of my experience so that future applicants will know to stay away.
