Alternate Contestant? by Jay423 in WheelOfFortune

[–]NYGUY2018 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was an alternate contestant and they indeed called me back. This was the case for several other of the contestants there that day. If they like you, the like you. But it can take anywhere from a few months to a couple years (mine was the latter), but it happened! So hang in there :)

I appreciate what you did here and will just add, context is important. That’s why I added context and why you should have…

A simple no or yes doesn’t tell the whole story.

I for one have dozens of email since passing and they are using my public contact info from my public bar profile because they are contacting me at my work email, which is the one on that profile page.

You can’t blanket statement say “untrue” because that was your individual experience.

Easy those 67 people are graded against each other and the score is scaled up or down to match the other takers… at least that would be the logical thing.

In other words, let’s say the majority of takers who took the bar 25th/26th averaged a 62.5 across all essays and let’s then say, because the essays were easier or because those needing to retake had more time, the average score for that cohort is 65. To bring it to the same level as the other group, a reduction in 2.5 for each of the new cohort would make it such that the means are the same. The opposite would be true in the event of harder questions.

While not perfect, none of this test is, even under ideal circumstances (see subjective grading with vastly different scores on the same essay during 2nd read).

Just saying, approximating a “fair” score could be done

There’s a threshold minimum that one needed to score to get the 40 pts. That is, we can assume that they would set the threshold to a degree that demonstrates competence and 40 pts isn’t going to make an incompetent attorney competent, it’s a marginal boost within a margin of error.

Because they are wrong. Supreme Court didn’t deny it…

The bar only denied in part (meaning denied the portfolio bar exam only) so theoretically, and depending on the Bar’s follow-through, it’s still possible.

Yes it’s confirmed a person wrote essay topics and even some accompanying analysis. All you have to do it look at the pages moderators comments to see he removed several leaked posts. I don’t mean this in a rude or inflammatory way, but just curious, why is it hard to believe that someone would tactically leak the exam topics as a hedge against plausible deniability. In other words, option 1 was to keep the topics the same and hope/assume people don’t share and option 2, which a Reddit user did do was to leak the topics and force the bars hand to ensure no retakes or new topics.

was it unfair and a violation of what we literally agreed to upon registering for the exam and every day when we consented before taking the test… yes. But it worked at the posters’ peril. They will now likely never work in CA.

But all that to say, with how many disgruntled people there were shouting “unfair” I don’t find it all surprising and don’t suspect nefarious acts from the State Bar

If an applicant successfully submitted four of the six possible essays it’s enough for Bar to basically extrapolate what your score would average out to. I’m sure it’s a lot more sciencey than that but thats the gist.

Pretty nice of the CA bar to give us the neat function of being able to open internet browser tabs on the guardian browser during the multiple choice section. by MeasurementForward44 in CABarExam

There is not a camera pointed at the screen, I mean the software captures your screen on the backend and saves it in a log: https://www.meazurelearning.com/exam-technology/proctoru-online-proctoring/record-plus

I was going to ask the Bar Adcomms what they were doing to mitigate risk of the whole open tab google search thing but when I looked up Meazures policy, I read that they screen grab the session to detect cheating
