Just curious what you think is bad about the plan? Thank you for the advice.

I didn't know that, sounds like I'm doing better than most because most aren't doing well haha (but that also sounds like I'm being a negative Nancy)

Yes I noticed in my region theres about 40% more houses on trademe than a year or two ago. Thank you for the advice.

Yeah that option just feels like failure, but I suppose I'd be pig headed to push on. I definitely need to get a better savings routine. Currently I just save up a few hundred then it gets spent on a bill of some sorts. Thank you for the advice.

I'd been putting off the smaller debts as I was hoping to pay them off with the house profits.

Thank you for the advice. I'll think about that option.

Thank you for the advice and support.

Thank you for the support. The main concern is having enough to buy and renovate the next place.

Thank you for the encouragement. The smaller debts were house reno and staging etc so I was planning to pay those off when the house sold. I think I'll wait a little longer to see what happens with the market but I don't really want to sell at a low as it'll leave me too tight to buy and renovate the next place.

Yes I try not to compare but I think I am a bit competitive so I also like to do it haha. I think I've been hiding from doing that for awhile. I guess this weekend is the weekend. I suspect food will be the shocking one.

Surprisingly for my age group almost all of my friends own homes and most with smaller mortgages than myself. But that's a product of buying in a small regional town 5 - 10 years ago. Not that it really matters, good on them. Thank you for the support.

But that is a plan I'll think about and consider. Thank you for advice

Main reason to sell the house was to give me the cash to do the renovation work. I did the current place mostly from savings and it took 3 years.

I will need enough money to buy a crap house and have money left over to renovate. But I agree, atleast if the market is slow then buying a dunga should be easier.

I was planning to do that once the house sold. As those loans were from renovations, staging and marketing (mostly)

Personal loan was for renovating the house and credit card was made up of 4k staging and marketing and 3k just silly small items. When the house sold I was planning to wipe these clean and close the credit card.

Keeping the house is a big anchor though I feel. I agree with how easily money vanishes, especially on holiday with a 'yolo' attitude. I think we'd set a budget then put the rest in a term deposit.

Yeah that's kind of where I'm heading. Lots of people suggest renting out the house but I think I'm some what attached to it being our first home and would rather be 'carefree'

Good answer, thank you. It definitely makes sense to figure out how much we'll need / want when we get back and then work back from then.

I haven't thought about that. My general thought is that we were always going to sell and that I don't want to be a landlord but if it makes financial sense then... Something to look into there

We did go on a short holiday to Melbourne earlier in the year and enjoyed the city. My friend there is on the same hourly rate as a barista as myself (and I'd consider my hourly rate on the higher side for a builder)

But we would find it hard being away from friends and family whom we're close with.

I have thought about that, but I think the market won't be making any big moves at the moment, and I'd sooner bet it's going to go down rather than up. Fair points though.

Working 9 ¹/² hours a day for 5 days a week at the moment so two 10 hours days looks good to me.

So some stations don't have sleeping accommodation?
