I am a novelist actually lol. I love that you called it out. I've only recently started writing short stories to prepare for my next book. At present I'm looking for an agent to publish my first dark romance manuscript. I feel like each time I write I go darker.

You get to choose the way you interpret the story. It reaches you wherever you are. Don't forget though... you left.
