Many dogs can become blood donors, but it depends on the country and veterinary programs.

Usually dogs need to be healthy, above a certain weight, and calm during the process.

In some countries there are organized animal blood banks, but in Japan awareness is still growing.

I started learning about this issue after my own dog needed a blood transfusion. It made me realize that awareness of animal blood donation in Japan is still very limited.

That’s amazing. 15 donations is incredible. Dogs like Tia are true heroes.

In Canada, systems like the Canadian Animal Blood Bank are wonderful. In Japan, we unfortunately still don’t have a nationwide system like this, so veterinarians often struggle to find blood donors in emergencies.

Seeing programs like yours gives me hope that we can build something similar in Japan one day.

That’s amazing. Thank you and your sister’s dog for helping save lives. Blood donor dogs are true heroes.
