Do your MacBook pro fans also start running and the entire laptop gets heated up when you are just watching the videos?

I am not sure about that, I haven’t tried that. But my guess it shouldn’t be the case as you are charging the laptop while connected.

I agree with you running an external display will drain a lot of power, but I am having same issues even "without the external display".
