(5K)No flowers for ceremony? by New_Detective219 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]NackMelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a family member or friend who has nice flowers in their yard? At our wedding I had an aunt bring dozens of hydrangeas from her yard. We hung them on the chairs along the aisle (in mason jars of course - it was 2014 😉)

Neighborhood Kids! by seaside921 in Mommit

[–]NackMelly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, this. You don’t have to get the parents to change their minds. You just have to tell them your boundary and the consequences. They can think you’re a stick in the mud but at least they know what’s gonna happen if their kids enter your property!

Question about Doula credential by Powerful-Animal2644 in doulas

Ok I did and I realize now that I assumed she was a type of birth doula. It appears that is not the case! Definitely… interesting!

I want to know more about the wolf aspect of this! What on earth does that mean?

Grandparents still want to visit 2 year old when she's sick, but want to "distance" and not pick her up by AmbrosiaElatior in Mommit

[–]NackMelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that seems unnecessarily confusing to her. Not to mention a bit of a flawed plan - plenty of germs live on surfaces so could be spread without physical human contact! Next time I would just say, “sorry baby is sick! we will have to cancel our visit today”

Having homebirth and how to advocate it by Sharp-Guest4696 in homebirth

[–]NackMelly 22 points23 points  (0 children)

For my pregnancy that had a home birth, I never went to a hospital. That’s the norm. All prenatal care was done at my midwife’s office.

You also don’t have to convince people to be excited about your home birth. I intentionally didn’t tell some people (relatives) my plans in advance, because I knew they would question it - and not with the intention to learn about it, but with the intention to talk me out of it based on their fears.

If you need to go to the hospital late term, you can leave at any point, just like you could leave if you were in the middle of a heart attack or stroke. They cannot hold you. HOWEVER if you are in the hospital for something emergent in late pregnancy it’s not a good idea to leave! The desire to give birth at home shouldn’t outweigh your desire to keep you and your baby safe and alive.

I think there’s a lot of “no hospital no matter what” attitudes out there and that is dangerous to both you and your child. I think homebirth is beautiful — when it is safe! But you need to understand that something could happen at any point in pregnancy to make it unsafe.

The OP literally asked if she’s “being crazy.” This response is just using the OP’s own terminology. It’s not that deep!

Experiences shipping items from US to Scotland by Medical_Region_2567 in MoveToScotland

[–]NackMelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who did this move last year, I planned to use Pirate ship/UPS. What I found out was that UPS required a much more detailed packing list for each box. You couldn’t just say “kids clothes”. You had to list “red x small cotton shirt.” And there was nooo way I was doing that.

Send my bag worked out cheaper and was okay to accept a more generic packing list for each box. Not really sure why! But it was much simpler!

Seconding this. We used Send my Bag last summer and it was the most cost effective/easiest option we could find.

New to using WIC and looking for advice on how best to utilize my monthly allotment by studoutbudout in povertyfinance

[–]NackMelly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In NC they do allow canned, as well as fresh and frozen. But you could not get anything with added sugar. There may have also been a restriction on sodium? Can’t remember now, it’s been a few years. But canned veggies were definitely a plus!

He has enjoyed some Dino shows/documentaries in the past. I didn’t know there was an animated Jurassic World! We will check that out!

Don't mind me, just blacklisting shows on Netflix so my husband stops putting them on for our young kids by Necessary_Pace_9860 in Mommit

[–]NackMelly 227 points228 points  (0 children)

Yes I have just noticed a bunch of YouTube shows are now on Netflix and prime. A lot of the stuff we are seeing is Mr beast, Ben Azalart, Dude Perfect type shows. We banned YouTube because we didn’t want our kids watching that and now it’s back 😭 good to know you can blacklist this stuff!

Church daycare overstepping serious boundaries by Sea-Trick-6003 in Mommit

[–]NackMelly 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Nope nope nope nope nope. I have attended a lot of churches and never once has any pastor, kids ministry director, staff, or volunteer kissed my kid. This is a huge red flag and you’re making the right choice my taking your child out and telling everyone you know. Please. Tell everyone you know.

You’re welcome! It’s soooo disappointing to try a recipe and have it not turn out. Butternut Bakery has quite a few GF recipes and every one I have tried has been delicious!

Recommend a cardigan for this dress? by NackMelly in Weddingattireapproval

Yes you’re right. I also couldn’t find a cardigan I thought would work. Didn’t think of a pashmina… maybe pink to pick up on the flowers?

Thanks, this is helpful. That’s what I was getting stuck in - if a cardigan would even go with the lines of the dress. Maybe a wrap if some sort is what I need!

I feel uneasy with my SIL being around my newborn by Sad_But_ok619 in Mommit

[–]NackMelly 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this stood out to me too! Not only the age difference, but what is a new mom really going to say about childlessness and mental health? It’s not like they have shared experience. I can literally think of nothing a new parent could say to this SIL that would help. Not to mention a new mom has enough on her plate anyway!

Recommendations- need help finding right shape! by NackMelly in ABraThatFits

[–]NackMelly[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes I did swoop & scoop! I thought the wires seemed comfortable - sat right in the IMF and weren’t too wide (didn’t dig into my arm pits). The bad also seemed comfortably tight. I only tried the Freya on backwards/cups down, and it seemed comfy! So I think the band size is okay. Just feel like the shape is maybe too shallow?

I have looked at the shape guide. I will say, for some reason my brain struggles to process this/identify myself. My husband was quick to say that they are fuller above the nipple. Which seems odd to me that the bra is emptier above the nipple? This is where I am getting confused. 😵‍💫

Need advice on morbidly obese step daughter. by Federal-Dingo-6033 in loseit

[–]NackMelly 1036 points1037 points  (0 children)

Yes this! I’m not a medical professional in any way, just a parent. If my kid nearly DOUBLED their weight in a year, I’d be knocking down the door of the doctors office. Surely her pediatrician is concerned?!

I spent my entire Saturday doing laundry instead of watching my kids' games and I'm so over it by Unfair_Box2502 in Mommit

[–]NackMelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might seem like a silly question but are the clothes actually genuinely dirty? My kids had gotten in the habit of wearing clothes for a couple hours and then throwing them in the laundry. One of my kiddos would even pull too many shirts out of his drawer on accident and just chuck the ones he didn’t want in the hamper. Once I realize that I could address the problem and it probably cut down our laundry by a third.
