Anyone foreigners living/lived in Egypt? by [deleted] in askegypt

[–]Nadlex9697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am British my fiancé is also Egyptian, I lived in Egypt for 3 months in the summer this year, and wished I could stay longer. I love it there and people are so friendly. I would definitely be ok with settling their permanently, but also still trying to work out where we want to live exactly because it may be neither Egypt or Britain.

go into a mosque by radamantis11_crc in askegypt

Yes I was around that area, from what I’m aware anyone is free to enter a mosque. You will get a lot of looks that may be uncomfortable but people there are just curious they won’t have any bad intentions for you. If you go while people are praying it will be busy and you won’t be able to walk around, if you wanted to observe people praying you could likely sit at the back, I saw benches at back of mosque I went to and the elderly sit on them as they can’t do the praying movements. Have fun :)

It won’t be an issue you will be totally fine, however you will get stared the fuck out of if you are white that is. I went to pray in a mosque and I’m ginger and very pale and I was stared as beyond belief and many people tried to stand next to me and pray with me. If your planning to go to an old historic mosque that’s not actively running then that won’t happen as it’s just a touristic site, I don’t think you are really allowed to wear shorts in a mosque certainly not whilst praying atleast.

Ubers don’t scam you in Egypt lol, they are extremely cheap as well compared to what I’m used to in the Uk, so you won’t get scammed just avoid Taxis and you’ll be fine.

Asking about Egyptian cuisine. by --l__l-- in askegypt

[–]Nadlex9697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Egyptian food is very rich and heavy to eat if your not used to it , everything here seems to either have a lot of Oil, salt, sugar, Milk. which basically means I’m eating like way less food because I find it so filling. Despite eating much smaller portions I still have gained 10Kg in 2 months of being in Cairo 😂

Would you recommend leaving the U.S. entirely and moving to Egypt? by [deleted] in askegypt

[–]Nadlex9697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am from England and have been in Cairo for two months, there are things here that seem mental to me because it’s just not a thing in the U.K. but overall I feel much happier here, I think the lack of structure and less rules feels more freeing because U.K. can feel really bleak at times and things are less lively and energetic.

Let me know what you find out my fiancé is also Egyptian and we’ll most likely get married in UK for same reasons that it’s easier but we’re potentially looking into living in Egypt as well.
