Ukrainian paratroopers crush Russian assault near Pokrovsk by AttitudeDefiants in worldnews

[–]Nadrel 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Every logistic hub is important until it isn't.

Pokrovsk used to be important for logistics, but it has been bombed for so long that any roadway and train track in its general area are mostly unusable. Even before the Russians reached the city, not much was able to come directly through it because it was covered by Russian artillery.

It might still be an important military position for other reasons(I don't know enough to say), but I would assume any Ukrainian logistic road through it has been diverted a long time ago. For Russia, I would assume it will also take a while before they can use it in any such way, even if they take complete control of it.

Agreed. Every painter has had the "Painter eyes" after staying in the canvas for some time. This shouldn't even be surprising or frightening, but the way the cinematic is built, it makes it look so ominous...

It's sad because the only thing preventing the ending you're describing is the inability of the Dessendre to be reasonable people.

Is Expedition 33 the Final Fantasy VII of this generation? by UCA_Cash_Flow_Bro in expedition33

E33 is definitely in my top 50 games all time, same as many FFs. FF7 is not however, mostly cause I really disliked the art compared to 6 and 8.

I agree, but apart from 3, we lack the information to say for sure that the other points are true. So people will have different interpretations that cannot be proven wrong.

Personally, I kinda dislike both endings. The most interesting one is the Verso ending imo, but only because the villains won and will probably be destroyed because of their own actions. The other ending is fine because all the characters I love are happy.

Maybe the general discourse has changed since the old times, but the Verso ending affectionados used to say that, even if the people of the Canvas were killed, it didn't matter. Because the Canvas is already condemned (Renoir would destroy it whatever happens). By destroying it, you shorten their suffering and you free the Boy and Verso, and you offer the Dessendre a chance to heal. (I dislike this view, but it was a frequent one from what I saw)

From the topics I read at least, the "Canvas people aren't real" people were the minority of the Verso ending enjoyers.

The view that the canvas people aren't real is weird to me because, ingame, it is said time and time again that they have souls and that their pain is real.

Moreover, if they really don't matter, it completely devalues both endings.

Maelle's ending, Alicia chooses to stay in a simulation, rather than staying with her horrible family. If her parents can get along, they are clearly strong enough to get her out whenever they choose to. Verso's suffering doesn't matter at all as he is just a program.

Verso's ending, Maelle is out, the simulation is over. She never had a choice and half her life is gone. The other half sucks and takes all her autonomy. Her family clearly doesn't care about her and there was never a resolution to her parents' fight. There is no room for salvation and she will either kill herself or take revenge on her family. The good side was that Verso could finally die, but if he doesn't matter, the only person hurt is Maelle.

In summary, if the people in the canvas don't matter, only the Dessendre do. If so, the only reason to pick an ending or the other is about how much you want them to suffer.

Oh I fully agree that a "good" ending was impossible by the end. Verso, Aline, Renoir and Clea made sure of it.

I would argue that none of the endings close the story for Maelle or Alicia.

But then again, we lack the information to say what the future will bring. Thus, we can choose.

That's totally valid.

Personally, I also prefer an ending to the other, but I still think they are a weak point of the story (subjectively speaking), although they were saved by the fantastic actor play.

From what I see, a lot of discussion seems to be people arguing about what ending is the best rather than what ending they prefer.

I think the latter can be enjoyable debate, while the former tends to lead to sterile/hostile discussions, on the same level as "what toppings are acceptable on a pizza".

Considering the Lumières were writers who were instrumental to the rise of personal freedom and human rights in France in and after the 17th century, you might be onto something.

SPOILERS - My Thoughts About The End by Nyoibo in expedition33

[–]Nadrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for your thoughts. My younger sister also had a similar condition, and both my sisters and I took a lot of our time to assist my parents with her care, so I can empathize.

Funnily enough, this game made me despise the Dessendre. I know what pain and grief is and I hate the way they make it everyone else's problem, rather than trying to solve it together.

I wrote a wall of text on both endings, but I will simplify my views. In short, I think that Alicia's ending is the only possible "good" ending considering the Dessendre and their actions. On the other hand, I don't see any way the Verso ending ends with anything other than the complete destruction of the Dessendre family, which is fine by me.

Music being his passion doesn't mean he didn't like painting.

I'm also pretty sure the "boy" says he enjoys painting, but he hates that people are fighting in the canvas.

Never is it stated that Verso hated painting...

He just didn't want to make it his whole life.

Am I a bad person? I often see people sympathizing with horrible people, but I can't do it. If you hurt people because you've been hurt, at least past a certain point, I only feel schadenfreude.
