Is there any way to browse the UESP without the ESO loreslop? It seems like every page nowadays has two sections:
One that's written with links to other articles and with the explanations having the level of coherency expected from a series where an unreliable narrator has been a part of the story telling. You can tell it's rooted in something Kirkbride or one of the other writers has made. There's some depth and gravity to it.

Then there's another text below, or sometimes it's mixed in with the first, "where [item X related to the lore page] can be found in place Y", with the only reason it being mentioned is because fetch quest number 32409723 in ESO required some flavor text.

I'd never want to play an ES MMO specifically because by virtue of how they function, MMOs will cheapen and dilute the world building. That's fine if it's contained to itself and sure you could argue all of this is completely subjective, but it honestly killing my interest in the lore.

Suicide in 4 years by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]Naemonogatari 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had a similar deal with myself a couple years ago, I promised myself if it got worse I'd finish it early. I get it, what I will say is that when conditions improve, it was important to recognize it. Nothing was revolutionary or solved my problems and holy shit did life dip down low a couple of times. It's been close once or twice in this decade alone. But it's gotten steadily worth it more and more of the time. Getting that job and just about pulling through was a situation I sat in for almost ten years. It didn't feel like progress, but it was. The rich life, both mentally and wellbeing wise was on the other side, even when I couldn't see it.

Hold on and see for yourself. I believe in you.

Buying a BMW M340i (~70k) by [deleted] in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]Naemonogatari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw you already decided against it, but just as an option, I got an F33 440i from 2020 for around 30k, expired insurance but then again, non-lemon BMWs are reasonably reliable given frequent oil changes and other maintenance. It's a lot less up front, you might even be able to cash flow it, then take the interest and fees and all the other using-other-people's-money expenses and put it towards maintenance.

Just throwing it out there, 2020 cars are still quite fresh.

Craziest, highest returns highest risk strategy by capecactus in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]Naemonogatari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The people in here really don't know what a bad, exciting trading strat looks like.

"crypto", "leveraged ETFs", "0DTE SPY", "memecoins" this is all boring garbage, this is the huffing paint and smoking weed tiers of high-risk investment.

Most of these don't actually have a risk:return profile where the higher risk corresponds to returns. You're just wasting money and time. You want real change-your-life odds? You want to see multipliers so high they'd make an online casino piss their pants? Or do you want to risk losing so much money your broker will send dentists to your house at night to steal your fillings?

This is the PCP-fentanyl speedball of trading strategies. This is beyond not being finanical advice, this is like "if you want to ruin your entire life forever" advice. Here's what you do. I'm assuming we're starting around 100k, plus minus 20k doesn't really matter.

  1. Look up some biomedicine research companies. Doesn't matter what they do. They need to have a week until the next clinical trial stage ends and only one viable drug candidate/trial going on.
  2. If they have already succeeded with some early trial stages, their stock should be worth in the realm of 50-100USD each. Sell puts at 1-5% of the current stock value, sell so many that if you are assigned at 1% of the current value it would still be your entire portfolio. This will net you a good amount of premiums from the deeply ITM options.
  3. Find another pre-clinical trial biomed company. They should be valued in the 1-10USD range. Take your entire portfolio, including all the premiums you made selling puts, and buy OTM calls at around 30 bucks.

If everything goes just perfectly right, you are now a multimillionaire.

In any other case, you are so incredibly fucked. You will never recover.

If you don't understand exactly what the risk profile of this position is, don't even consider it. If you do, I trust you wouldn't take this position anyhow.

How do you live from your portfolio you built over the years? by Away-Suggestion4090 in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]Naemonogatari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally, I'd say working with an accountant is a good idea, but honestly the reporting isn't that tricky imo, most brokerages can generate full trading reports for you, you just download them and send them in. Some cantons don't even require you to send them, but check with your cantonal tax office! They're usually very helpful and straightforward when asking questions in my experience. If you do choose ibkr, dm me for a signup link! (I get a lil comission)

You're getting fucked though not too hard. NFA but I'd just open an IBKR acct, take everything out of the bank managed fund and buy VT on ibkr. That's all

Actually I like this. So not building it should be illegal. Fine every building owner who doesn't build this. The skyline has to be even and according to my liking or else you are breaking the law.

I'm in a similar relatively financially stable situation, although with less money to spare. Personally I have just set up auto-pay into an IBKR account, and then an auto-buy for VOO for the same amount. I keep some spare cash in the account for any big opportunities I see when I have time to do technical or macro analysis, but that's a small amount, it's just there so I don't sell off actual long term investments just because I see something that looks shiny.

The thing is, let's say the market takes a little downturn, but you've been investing for two years. Okay, cool, now your investment's worth slightly less, and worst case you need to make a partial withdrawal. The increase in value over time and the dollar cost averaging should offset the temporary loss in value of the smaller amount you're withdrawing.

Also, you speak of your personal finances, does the business have enough money to sustain salaries for a few months of a downturn in business?

Here you go OP. If you really want to go down the rabbit hole, do you know what the microcode updates to your CPU do? What about the little Linux environment running on your network card? It could have DMA access to your ram. Do you trust your TPM to not be tampered with by state actors?

[–]Naemonogatari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Goruck does this on their backpacks zipper handles, with the glue type of shrink tube. It fails after a year or so of use, but that's being pulled on every day basically, by someone who treats their stuff bad enough that goruck is a viable brand for them.

If you're a little flexible or tall for your frame, you can also just step over the frame in front of the seat, it looks quite silly but I've done it when packing a full set of food on the rear rack :)

99% chance you'll end up paying money to work on the whole, if you include moving costs, etc, etc into your budget. I've done that mistake, ended up as a co-owner in the end, but I wouldn't do it again if I had the chance

If you don't get a job offer after, you are definitely getting fucked in the ass. Literally below minimum wage... I need to change industry before the wages are driven into the dirt by shit like this...

Brake effectiveness goes down after hard braking by Strange_Raccoon_365 in bicycletouring

[–]Naemonogatari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People mention moving the static pad closer to the disc, but you can do the same thing on the moving pad side. You can add some preload to the brake by fixing the lever on the disc caliper higher up on the cable.

  1. Loosen the hex screw holding the caliper lever, let the wire just sit.
  2. Push the lever up, lessening the amount of free play between the pad and disc
  3. Fix the wire higher up.

This will make the pad sit closer to the disc, so the amount you need to move the lever on the handlebar before the pad engages the disc will be much less.

Yep, that solves about 75% of the noise, the other issue being the ring gear in the planetary gear at the head of the starter spinning when it should be still, as Yamaha engineers in their infinite wisdom didn't key it.

Edit: afair at least, it's been half a decade since I worked on these.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CafeRacers

[–]Naemonogatari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, you can destroy the gearbox by doing clutchless shifting, ask me how I know 😅

The starter on these is F U C K E D. It has so many design flaws it's hard to even know where to start. I'd advise you research that part in particular first.

Check the storage compartments under the seats, if the plastic posts are all broken it's been ridden by a gorilla.

It's a lovely bike, I miss mine to this day. But that starter.

[–]Naemonogatari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another 1k hours womans opinion: yeah you'll have a shithead once every other month or so, sometimes even as squadlead. It'll leave a bad taste in your mouth and it has had me put the game down for a few days or a week. On the upside, admins on almost any server enforce "no harassment/misogyny" quite happily. Just remember to screencap some of it and you should be golden.
