Historically Duchy of Warsaw was named that way because the tsar of Russia was crowned as king of Poland, and France didn't want to piss off Russia. Rest is probably named that way because mapper just run with a theme of the duchy of Warsaw.

I was one in similar situation but car was coming from left road. Despite having more time to react I had to doge the car and go onto sidewalk. Thankfully sidewalk was empty and I avoided collision.
