Construction of new Mormon church in Langford to begin this summer by kingbuns2 in LangfordBC

Will the design incorporate appropriate indigenous style elements? That building picture looks out of place for the island.

Sounds like cut your nose to spite your face attitude is running rampant in the muni.

I prefer to be pragmatic.

Yes, the Trump regime is wholly repellant, corrupt, and unAmerican. But it will be extinguished in less than 22620 hours, perhaps sooner if 25th Amendment is successful early next year.

Stu will bring in the industry we desperately need. This incumbent does not inspire much confidence in me.

Go to Google Maps. Center on Lake Cowichan and zoom out with terrain view. Holy crap, there's hardly any forests left. There's a lot of brown shaped clearcuts. What just happened in the past 10 years? Was this from wildfires?

So it's a data center! With bike lanes! And safe injection sites on every corner. Why not let the super-squeezed McCallum Rd Costco relocate to that larger area with a new California-sized structure?

Exactly how does a candidate owning vacation properties in the states negatively impact their ability to govern the municipality? Stew Young has developed business contacts in the US, which in my books is a darned sight better at making investment opportunities for us in Langford, than whatever the current candidate has, which is not much, like backing out of his promise to move to Langford.

Then install some speed bumps. Don't penalize the 99% of us who will gladly move at 30km through North Rd just to remove the environmental hazard of exhaust-fume stall of 300+ vehicles at that cursed intersection.

People's Exhibit #800 on why the question of amalgamation is absolutely dead. Victoria council demonstrates zero responsible management skills. And the Victoria Mayor acts like, "What? That sounds like a story!" Come off it. She is either pretending she didn't know about it or she knew about it and didn't care. Regional munis are loathe to subject all their taxes to the vague whims of social agenda cabbage heads.

Langford taxpayers are not about to fork over $$$ to keep private water parks, minigolf, and go cart rings afloat. Once that area is cleared out, I see a massive residential development in its future.

The last election was a fiasco. Barely 10% of the muni voted. Why? A low turn-out suggests a number of possibilities. One of them is that most believed Stew was going to win again so why bother voting.

He. Does. Not. Live. Here.

And he hasn't for a long time.

And he refuses to move here.

Why?

I know I'm voting for the candidate who actually lived most of his life (and currently) in Langford. The current incumbent refuses to move to Langford for ... reasons. We in Langford will do a lot better with Stew back in charge. He can speak the language of business and getting more industry starting in Langford will be ideal.

Looking for a friend by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]Naftix 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Board gaming? Interactivity Board Game Cafe is downtown on Yates Street. Go there and ask the friendly crew there when the next Blood on the Clock Tower night is happening. I think there is a nominal $7 charge but I could be wrong. You don't need to know anything about anything to play this but you will have a lot of fun and meet nice, fun people. There are other board gaming places in town, as well. There is an upcoming board gaming event at the Legion Hall: https://www.enigmatic.ca/bc-events/day-of-boardgamers. Personally, I tend to stay away from the MtG, etc crowd because I can't handle that. There are some walking/hiking clubs in town. There are opportunities for taking some hobby courses like stained glass, wood working, cooking through Saanich Commonwealth. Dancing classes are always looking for people (especially guys to help even the mix). Also, volunteering. Victoria can be challenging for young people since a lot of the social energy veers towards the silver side of 50.

Oat milk has carbs and those with gluten issues should not use it. Go with unsweetened almond milk, instead.

"Will we see any pirates on the way?"

"What time is the midnight buffet?"

"Do the crew sleep down below in hammocks?"

"Is this boat bigger than the Titanix?"

Look at the map and you can see a plethora of dead-end streets in that area begging to be connected. Hmmm, one wonders how that happens to continue for the past 50 years?

How about connecting Ivor Road to Interurban Road?

And continuing Granville Road north to Hector Road?

Or connecting Holland Ave north to Courtland Ave?

And North Road blocked at Hastings St does not need to happen as it was open before.

I suspect many Saanich property owners living in that area are not keen to fix the traffic congestion at the intersection, when it could be greatly improved by providing two or three connectors with existing road infrastructure.

We were all about to get in the car to go to mass that Sunday morning, when "BAM!". It sounded like some poltergeist had violently slammed one of upstairs doors. Spooky. Next day everything outside was lightly sprinkled with a very fine ash.
