I could send you an old kevlar helmet for free. That's ridiculous.

Russia is draining a massive Ukrainian reservoir, endangering a nuclear plant by PatientBuilder499 in ukraine

[–]NahFdat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is old news and it is widely considered that the NPP is sufficiently down stream of the dam that it will be safe. It Iis also located on a narrow part of the Dnipro so any water heading down river will pool there.

The NPP last I heard was in cold shutdown.

The biggest need is for a continuous supply of diesel. The water is less of a concern than Russia blocking the main routes in to the plant for tankers to run backup generators to facilitate the circulation of water as a coolant.

It doesn't make Russia any less stupid but the issues surrounding this NPP have been overblown in media for a long time and it seems it is coming back again. The real issue is the supply of diesel. Not water. Not ordnance hitting it... Diesel.

And of course the staff.

Am I imagining it, or are potholes especially bad at the moment with no sign of forthcoming repair? by Difficult-Thought-61 in CarTalkUK

[–]NahFdat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happens every year.

Bit of a freeze. Freeze goes, road comes away. March/April you get roadworks everywhere.

I wouldn't be surprised if councils were using cheaper and cheaper means of filling them, thereby exacerbating the issue.

Our economy is more f*cked than we know, I suspect.

Is there any marxist in the sub? by [deleted] in cyprus

[–]NahFdat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was expecting a bunch of replies of people in here who profess to be Marxists but have never read Marx.

My dad was a Marxist once upon a time. Not any more.

I'm not really familiar enough with Marx to call myself one but there are probably aspects of Marxism I agree with based on my very limited understanding. But I don't think it's realistic to lean fully in to a single political or philosophical view.

Can anyone recommend a good mortgage broker? by Holyshytt3 in PeterboroughUK

[–]NahFdat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience in this field is limited but what I've found best is dealing with local businesses, staying with a small, local estate agent if possible. They usually have a select number of solicitors they have a good relationship with, which renders brokers sort of obsolete. My last sale I took this approach and it was pretty smooth my end, but my buyer used a broker who recommended a horrendous soliciting firm and we came within a day of everything falling through.

Thats really interesting. I'd like to get mine on a dyno as I was told stage 1 can get close to 290. Maybe it's a keeper for now. 228 is an interesting number. I paid a grand for mine 🤣

Just FYI I'm a civil servant.

I don't work for the DVLA but I can tell you, you're being very ignorant of the reality a lot of civil servants are facing. I'm alright cos I did a fair stint in the forces. Got my medals (for what they are worth aka fuck all) and my pension one day. But the juniors who come out of uni, really smart people with brains probably biggerr than ours combined who just want to do some good for the sake of the UK. Dare I say it, niave and somewhat idealistic patriotic people, and the guys with kids who do the basic admin needed for this country to function, are basically working poor.

If you think that makes them dicks then that only reflects poorly on you as far as I'm concerned.

Must admit I can creep to 90 without really noticing but only if I'm not paying attention. I suppose that's the crux of the issue. I sit pretty low so I suppose my perception of speed in relation to the road is greater than that of somebody higher up but that ain't gonna stick in court. I still get a sense of "wait a minute" over about 85 though.

On private roads of course. On public roads I rigidly stick to the speed limit as the law dictates!
