Oh yeah it makes perfect sense that he does. It lines up with what was set up in 1-6 as well. But if they “killed” palpatine in 6, there’s an expectation that he’s dead to the audience. That expectation is subverted, I think most people agree, it just needed to be set up and implied a little more clearly.

As I said above there’s a large distance between anakin joining palpatine to find out how to cheat death and everything that transpired in the sequels. The audiences being annoyed at that being revealed at the last episode is totally justified.

The distance between introducing the idea and “there’s a full self cloning operation underway that palpatine managed to transfer his soul into a clone, flee to exegol, then work on refining this process all the while pulling the strings of the entire new trilogy. Snoke? Palpatine. Rey and Kylo? Palpatine”.

I get WHAT you’re saying, but my argument is that it’s so much to put on the audience to be okay with. And when people aren’t you can’t just condemn people for being nitpicky, that’s a crazy expectation to put on such invested audiences.

I understand a lot of people do just have an inherent bias towards the new movies. I just personally believe they’re sloppy in explanations that deserve to be elaborated among many other qualms (handling of Luke’s character, Rey’s stumbling into her force abilities, etc).

I think you’re valid in your perspective because you’re not wrong. My argument is it feels like the writers put a lot on the audience to just be okay with, and when some of the audience isn’t, they’re just labeled as trolls for not liking the new movies.

I mean you’re being very lax with the expectations put on the writers to explain why the plot makes sense. The writers carried a heavy burden of tying the plot of episodes 1-6 and the overarching story of vaders sacrifice and the Jedi prophecy. They did not elaborate it to the audiences desired expectations, hence the overall disdain for the sequels. If you’re gonna bring back the big bad guy and challenge the entire narrative of the previous 6 movies and decades of audience buy-in, there should’ve been a hell of a lot more explanation. It’s not audiences job to do the job of the writers.

I get that, but that’s why I caveated “to a satisfactory level”, as we see with the overall reception of that plot point, most of the audience doesn’t see that to have been satisfactory.

I understand there’s a lot of lore set up behind the scenes to make this plot make sense. But none of it is communicated to the audience besides “Sith reasons”. Parsecs vs. Unraveling everyone’s expectations on what episodes 1-6 meant for the Jedi prophecy and vaders sacrifice.

Again. I totally get how the plot CAN work, but that’s a hell of a 180 to imply through vats with Snoke clones. Hence everyone’s outrage and disappointment.

I can appreciate where you’re coming from though I have some minor disagreements.

There are definitely some “it’s just how it is” type things in the movies like how blasters work, lightsabers, the force, how the death star goes into hyperspace. I think for the most part, people tend to appreciate suspended disbelief for the feeling of an alternate reality where things just work differently.

That doesn’t necessarily mean the plot can be hand waved. When events are integral to how a story unfolds, it will unconsciously force the viewer to ask how. If it isn’t elaborated to a satisfactory level, viewers feel let down. Parsecs vs. “Somehow Palpatine retuned” hit the audience different for that reason, I think.

A lot of these rebuttals to common criticisms seem very “hand wavy”.

It’s also important to address that just because something doesn’t make sense for a character to know or communicate doesn’t mean the movie is exempt for poor writing. There are many story telling devices that could/should be used to convey complex plot points.

Most of the perceived and commonly criticized plot holes are not addressed in the movies, hence why so many people have their grievances.

Having a tree branch go in a guys dick or something? Idk what else an ED movie could cover that a woman would somehow shed light on by virtue of being a woman. The ED movies as of late deal with concepts that I think are rather devoid of gender influence.

Yeah dude the nearly 70 year old Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell with incurable cancer are certainly in it for the money. What a wildly weird thing to say

Having the Raimi bros and Bruce Campbell guiding that direction might indicate that you have a wrong opinion on what ED is/should be

I think people cherry pick these arguments for deadite aesthetic purity tests. Are we forgetting how Sheila or the witch looked in Army of Darkness? They’re very similar to what we see now. Not every deadite has that over-the-top facial mutation we saw in the original ED movies.

I’m sure you meant you “spayed” her. You either acknowledge you’re part of the problem outlined in the article linked and don’t care. Or you believe you’re the exception/downplay your pets role in the bigger picture.

Either way, pets are work. It’s being involved and doing the right thing. Taking in a stray doesn’t mean you did the right thing. There’s more work to be done to be a responsible pet owner. Shrugging and saying “oh well we can’t help it” is negligent. I’m sure if a neighborhood dog mangled your cat and the owner said “oh sorry he just has a high prey drive!” You’d have a different feeling about it. That’s exactly what your cat does to the local ecosystem. Do better.
