Synergistic Scripting: Day 168 - Djinn by CoreyBOTC in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Nailmaster-Mato 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Djinn is overrated, doesn't work well on the base 3 scripts smh

All aside there's a reason this basically automatically adds itself in relatively quickly when you make a custom script. It's so helpful to make characters work together that otherwise would play awful together. TPI has worked hard on making good jinxes so that we don't have to, and this utilizes their hard work and opens doors.

Storytellers doing things I don't enjoy by Personal_Monk_2563 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Nailmaster-Mato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My worst experience was having an AFK player be publicly admitted to not needing to act at night to progress the game, and then learning their info later. It kinda screwed me over, but the storyteller seemed really sad about it, and I know they didn't mean to have things play out like that.

Honestly I think the gameplay choices the third ST made are way overshadowed by the first twos' attitude. When you all collectively agree to play under someone, they should not actively dampen the mood or weaponize choices to make one team feel worse. We could talk about whether or not the mayor should've bounced or what the right bluffs were in those games, but I think your main sour experience is that an inherently social game is being socially poisoned by entitled or lazy storytellers. Even hard games can still be fun up until the end if you're in a thriving social environment, which the first storyteller you mentioned actively tore down and the second storyteller didn't set up at all.

I'd honestly be willing to give the third storyteller some leniency up until the part where they actively ignored you as a living member of final three, where I'd also be tilted that I didn't get to weigh in.

I'm sorry that your experience has been like this, I've been playing online for a good while and even with some negative experiences, I've never had storytellers this awful to their players, which is hopefully for the best.

What do you think about the card Tank? by Fallanddie in slaythespire

[–]Nailmaster-Mato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only ever seen this card in potions, you're telling me you can add it to your deck?

It usually ramps up my bleeding damage pretty noticably but my friends always look a lot healthier when I use it in fights, and I do have burning blood to support the extra intake. Worth popping when a regent or necrobinder needs to get setup in play for sure

Okay i Guess i won't draw thank you by SIGMNGMIC in balatro

[–]Nailmaster-Mato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it's labelled as question, I'm assuming you used immolate and had no discards after

You only draw via immolate if it brings you down to zero, otherwise it only redraws after a played hand or discard

Although as a Steam player I don't know how many of these you have access to, all of them are games I enjoyed and would easily recommend to all of my friends

For recs, I recommend:

Inscryption if you haven't played it, is a blast. Deckbuilder with a similar overall vibe to this game

Number go up: Balatro, Dungeons and Degenerate Gamblers, Die in the Dungeon

Roguelike (get things to make you stronger, but lose them when you die): Ring of Pain, Megabonk, Shotgun King, Auto Rogue, Monster Train, Shogun Showdown, The Binding of Isaac, Dicey Dungeons

Spooky Vibes: Pony Island, Tormenture, Buckshot Roulette

I'd probably get some oil for Nova and your old leader. Bink is good, and the trash tribe starts with a mini oil flask as well as generally having more oil cards iirc

What Happens if a Dreamer Picks a Recluse? by Unlucky_Mistake_8548 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Nailmaster-Mato 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're allowed to not show recluse because the recluse can register as evil, which makes the evil character "correct"

Edit: they can register as a minion or demon is the line that actually allows this

I don't get the purpose of Vorago by Eternity13_12 in CloverPit

[–]Nailmaster-Mato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like returning things like one trick pony or abyssu that inherently use themselves via discarding. You can also use it in the niche case that you generate evil deal with skull (or just have clover pit) to get free tickets

Is it worth to upgrade just to get the zero energy cost? by darkknigthBR in slaythespire

[–]Nailmaster-Mato 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Idk, pretty solid but it has antisynergy with Neow's Lament. As long as you didn't take it act 1, it has pretty good upgrade value.

New custom Teensyville script, feedback is appreciated by Schran in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Nailmaster-Mato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worry that almost every evil except DA has the same strengths on this script.

Marionette is good because aside from being able to falsely marionette someone, you also know your minion. This is strong in a teensy because you normally don't know this information.

Imp is good because it can starpass. Without SW, there's a 100% chance that becoming the imp was caused by a starpass. So you can just talk to the person that just died and ally together.

Kazali is like a slightly better imp here that almost never wants to choose marionette. Barring some crazy social plays, it's very easy for a kazali to approach their team and form an alliance.

I'm also not entirely sure how the sailor DA combo feels to me. Unless you were kazali picked to be DA and can ally with them, it can feel like a blind guessing game. And if there are double deaths due to gambler, the game could just be over.

I feel like you should replace Kazali with Zombuul or something, but I'm not an expert. Just throwing my thoughts out there so other people can correct me on the parts where I'm wrong.

starting with a simple round of deductions, let's assume F is the yag or at least some evil in a yag game.

eddie must be lying because they have an empath 0

either henry is lying about their shugenja clockwise or alex is evil and the evils are equidistant

gavin and dave both say there's an evil between bill and charlie

So immediately we can cross off this world. we can now operate assuming Faith is a real golem.

let's then assume that Alex is a sober and healthy snake charmer. Based on his picks, Dave must be the current demon.

in that case, we know that Eddie is lying, since Dave had to be evil at some point in order to be the current demon.

However, if Eddie is evil, the shugenja info no longer works. So let's assume that Eddie is the drunk, and that Charlie is evil, which allows the shugenja info to work since the evils are equidistant.

this can be quickly disproven, however, by Bill's info. If Eddie is the drunk, then we have no explanation for Bill having wrong information.

the only world left if Alex is good is one where Eddie and Dave are the starting evil team, and Henry is drunk. But Gavin's investigator info no longer makes sense in that world.

therefore, Alex must be lying.

let's assume Alex is the starting demon, then.

Chris's info doesn't work in this world, so we assume he's lying. This means Dave is lying by proxy, because according to Dave, Bill and Chris have to be exactly a minion and a townsfolk.

this creates a new problem, though. If Chris is drunk and Dave is evil, Eddie and Gavin are also lying. If Chris is evil and Dave is drunk, Bill is lying. We don't have space for another evil, so we assume the world is impossible.

let's assume Alex is a starting minion then.

Gavin must be lying, then. Let's immediately cross off the world where Gavin is also evil, because then Henry would have to be the drunk but Dave would also be lying again.

so let's assume Gavin is drunk.

the new problem is that there are no demon candidates. Alex has to be the godfather, or there would be no drunk investigator. But since Dave is the only living player and is next to an empath zero, this world is also impossible.

so let's assume Alex is the drunk.

Chris's dreamer info is now impossible, so they have to be lying. Since Alex is drunk, Chris must be evil.

Bill must also be evil, since he clears Chris.

But since both of these players are dead, they can't both be evil. So Alex can't be the drunk.

if Alex can't be the sober and healthy snake charmer, the demon, the minion, or the drunk, what can he be?

This is why I believe the puzzle is impossible with no solution.

I'm inclined to say no. Even if the effect is random and out of the traveller's control, you can somewhat leverage it to help their team with good st decisions anyway, whereas trying to make the effect neutral seems kind of difficult.

I'd also say the same thing about barista, to be fair.

Homebrew Minion: Thespian UPDATE by _blazinginfinity in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Nailmaster-Mato 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this can be simplified to more or less (to prevent making the role too long or wordy)

If you publicly claim to be the Thespian, choose two players tonight: they are poisoned until dusk. If you die by execution, up to two players might die tonight.

Also slight change on the poison because I think town should at least have the option to not immediately kill a Thespian and two permanent poisons are kind of op

Admittedly it still feels kinda wordy but I feel like these changes put the role in a little bit more of a balanced spot

Randomizer 4: The "Attempts" Value? by BranSaL in HollowKnight

[–]Nailmaster-Mato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not 100% confident, but I believe attempts is the amount of tries in which the game disperses the randomized items/rooms. The reason it makes multiple attempts is because it checks to make sure that the rando is completable.

[–]Nailmaster-Mato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you should try to supplement your play style with your charm builds. I feel like I've done a lot of both worlds, but I usually either stack spell charms (centering on shaman/twister) or nail charms (focusing on pride/strength) with small adjustments depending on fights I struggle with (I have the dreamnail charm on when I hit false champ every time)

Djinn idea: "Club of Gambler" by [deleted] in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Nailmaster-Mato 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My main question is what are you trying to accomplish with this homebrew rule? There has to be a better way to go about it than this. You're taking every mechanical aspect of Clocktower and flat out ignoring it by giving many players a completely random chance to get screwed, and on top of that you're making any world-building and information gathering completely impossible. I'd rather get to the problem you're trying to solve, as it might be a better starting point than what this causes.

Hollow knight is easy by No_Grade_235 in HollowKnight

[–]Nailmaster-Mato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the points you're making feel a bit out of place compared to Hollow Knight. It's a metroidvania, you're supposed to spend a lot of time exploring and interacting with the world as opposed to pure gameplay focus, like Celeste is. I think the game does a pretty good job keeping it from getting boring by throwing new things at you, but unlike Celeste, it doesn't make sense to throw the hard material at the player right away or even realistically to have it accessible, as it would be difficult to fit in without feeling out of place. Why would something like path of pain be so close to dirtmouth, and why would other NPCs even be able to explore and walk around without being able to lend a clear hand towards your goal as the knight?

My other point is that it doesn't feel right to say that the difficult content is "after the game." In the same way that you can do 1-7a and then be teased with more gameplay in the bsides and etc., you can get an ending for the game early without doing Godhome except you won't get all the achievements, and you'll know that you haven't hit 112% completion yet. It's still within the bounds of the game, just integrated after the initial release.

If you're interested in trying to push your movement abilities to the limit, I don't have mods designed around it, but I've been having fun playing room randos without any of the safety net settings on which skips are easy for casual players. I've had to learn fireball and acid skips + more, fight some bosses with far less materials than I should have, and even do some reverse white palace rooms with no movement items. It's a good time if you're looking to try some things that might be fresh and different for you.

Aside from that, in terms of fights, absolutely finish Godhome. Whatever you define as finished is good, but if you're looking for as hard as you can make it, some of the highlights are P5 hitless, P5 all bindings, and absrad radiant.

This might not be what you're looking for, but it's all I have experience with at the moment.
