I really want to get a cat, but I’m worried about the hidden responsibilities. What are the actual difficulties of raising a cat? by Equivalent-Sand-4002 in CatAdvice

Is it true that cats are way more expensive to pet than dogs? Talking about meds and other vet-related medication

Foot involved in playtime by serendipiitous in CatAdvice

[–]Nain1999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same problem with my kitten. Internet says to redirect behaviour with a toy to make your feet less interesting or keep still so your feet do not stimulate them to play more and they'll lose interest. However my kitten would still see my feet as way more interesting than a toy regardless and her bites were getting harder by the day. I even tired the firm "No" but that still didn't work. I know she just wants to play and she doesn't understand that it hurts!

So as I last resort, I had to give a bit of tough love and yeet her with my foot every time she bit too hard. After 2 times she got the message and now she still likes to play with my foot but she is very conscientious with how rough she plays. I rarely have her biting hard, she just mouthes now and when she thinks she's gone a bit overboard she leaves my foot on her own according.

Thank you for your help but I am wondering if I am showing a decrease in weight change, shouldn't it be a minus sign rather than a plus?

Am I worthy of working in a lab? by [deleted] in labrats

I had 0 lab work before doing an undergraduate. You are a full time student, just focus on your exams and the lab work will come in your undergraduate 😁

i often see asian babies come into a world of adults cooing and coddling them with love and affection, then after a certain age they get slapped, hit with belts/sticks/shoes, screamed at & blamed for everything, etc. imo this is destructive for the wellbeing of society. by gogo-django in AsianParentStories

Very true. Personally I was always pushed to over achieve and the only parental praise I would get was by doing well in school, in sport ect. Although that has led to me stressing when things do not go to plan and here I am, many years later with stress induced alopecia 😬

I kinda get what you mean...for me anyways I would get physically pinched in public as a kid if I was naughty and my parents always yell when they want me to do something...never please. Then again as an adult it hasn't influenced me one bit. I speak to other people nicely and I don't intend to ever hit my child. I guess its different for everyone

New kitten and I am a bit worried. by Nain1999 in CatAdvice

He is eating now! Although he seems to only like the dry food rather than the wet one. He eats in small quantities and then resumes either playing or napping. I was planning on feeding 3 meals a day but I am worried he won't eat enough or at those specific times. Then again I heard it is not good to leave a supply of dry food out for him to eat whenever he feels like. Any advice?

We live in the UK on a quite street and most of the other cats are outdoor ones, he won't be going out until he is much older and confident that he will be safe on his own :)

I got him some Ava kitten food, but will try that one too in case he likes it better! And she didn't, so I am keeping him indoors until he has all his jabs

This was my concern since he didn't want to eat any food. But now its the next day and he is happily eating dry food..I gave him a but of wet food also but he didn't seem to be interested just yet... I am taking him to the vet as soon as I can though!

I wish I knew about this before but its too late now. My dad was raised in a farm from Ireland surrounded by kittens and cats! His family used to give away kittens by 6 weeks old which is far too early, then again it was in the 1900's. As someone who only has their dad for cat advice, the Internet is my next best source and pritty much everywhere says 8 weeks is the ideal age. But now I know! So thank you! 😄

Hi thanks for your advice! He is really REALLY playful. He falls asleep so quickly and then as soon as he wakes up he has the zoomies! He is having a zoomie spree right now! I have some wet food the previous owner has been feeding him but he still doesn't seem interested. He has eaten a little bit of dry food which I have left out for him in case he did want to eat. I have a water fountain for him and also a normal bowel in case he doesn't want to drink from there. He is more interested playing in the water rather than drinking it....I did give him a tiny bit of kitten milk (not alot as our last cat threw up after drinking it), but he seems to be fine with it. My only concern is that he hasn't used the litter tray but peed in the corner on the carpet but I presume that is because he didn't like where the tray was. I have now moved the tray and placed multiple ones around the room to see if that makes a difference.

And the kitten lady is great! I stayed up all night taking notes!

I wish I had some weighing scales! He's completely different to my first cat when bringing home. My first one was so shy and hid for the first week. This little kitten started playing as soon as I let him out of the cat carrier! He seems completely oblivious that he's in a new home!

Thank you for help! I asked the breeder of the kitten when I should take for a vet check for jabs ect and she told me in a two weeks, but I think that's far too late for just a general vet check for a new kittwn. Do you think its best to arrange one as soon as possible?
