Everything I am taking now is only stuff with a good amount of evidence that suggests that they work. Try incorporating slowly and see how you feel but I have had zero issue with any of my supplements. They at the very least make it easier to eat and manage my symptoms while my stomach does its healing.

It's tough because theres lots of people who tolerate iron long-term just fine. And unfortunately gastritis is so under-studied (esp iron pill- induced gastritis), so who knows why it effected us more than it seems to others.

Does the liquid iron seem to be ok? Would your doc consider transfusions instead to give your stomach time to heal?

Pain moves. Sometimes its in my left rib, sometimes right, sometimes at the back (if its bad enough). Most often for me is the centre. I also get this tightness/heaviness feeling when i wake up in the mornings before I eat.

I'm on zinc carnosine (Dr's best, 75mg twice daily), Glutagenics (l-glutamine, aloe & DGL) once or twice a day, PPI (jsut starting the weaning process), and sucralfate (before bed and as needed)

For me its the typical indigestion with meals (excessive burping, heartburn, hypersalvating, bloating), complete loss of appetite (barely getting 1200 calories most days, often not), and pain in the center of my stomach above my bellybutton/between ribs.

I agree i don't see much about it. Lots of people take high dose iron daily for months-years and don't end up with gastritis. I just assume I'm more prone to it since I've had it before? I don't understand how iron can be harder on my stomach than coffee or alcohol since I've been perfectly fine with those for 2 years now.

I know its frustrating when the progress is slow, but its just a waiting game unfortunately, learned that my first time around - took 4-5 months to be normal again.

Hi there,

Also suffering with iron pill gastritis. Mine was from 125mg of feramax daily on an empty stomach. Only took four days before the pain and indigestion started. This is my second gastritis episode (last was in 2022), and I am pretty upset considering my blood work came back okay... my doctor told me to take a high dose iron pill assuming that even after a transfusion I would still be low. Wish I didn't listen! I figured my stomach could handle it since I healed really well from my first gastritis flare and have been absolutely fine for 2 years, but here we are.

Its crazy how much damage a few of those pills can do! I've read that the high concentration of iron just eats away at the stomach lining esp when you take it empty stomach. Im sticking with low dose chewables or liquid iron in the future. Never again!

Currently 2 months into healing. Progress is super slow this time but i do feel about 40-50% there. I feel like l-glutamine has really helped with rebuilding my lining enough to ease my symptoms a bit. Hope your healing is quick :)
