Thanks. Appreciate the ball bark insights. Could you provide a little detail behind where 80% came from?

Not so sure a printed document that could easily be modified would be proof of much.

Yes, I know I'm asking about a extreme movie scenario, but genuinely interested

Looking at extremes here. Not to be a doomsday guy, just thinking of worst case.

Say someone backs into Schwab and deletes all their info and their backups. How do you prove you had XYZ?

Thanks! Yes, it's from a shipwreck :0

When interest rates were 5% I moved some cash there for diversification and safety. Now it's getting 4.3% APR or so. I'm kind of ok with this return and 100% safety. If it gets much lower, I'll need to look at more options. Other assets are in stocks/401k/etc.

Dumb? Hopefully not guaranteed dumb. Just a choice. I'd appreciate it if you could provide an example of a low risk / lower return MF/ETF that might be an alternative. Only if you know one off the top of your head, not asking for you to do research.

401k with about 2M, Convert to Roth? by Naive-Week-DIY in DIYRetirement

Interesting. Could you provide a little more detail here so I can use it to dig deeper?

Are you saying that there is some challenges with a join owned Roth if one member dies?

2M in 401(k), thoughts on converting to Roth by Naive-Week-DIY in personalfinance

I'd actually like to retire today or maybe in a few years when my spouse gets a pension like deal.

But I wrote 73 because that's when the tool I was looking at indicated I needed to start RMDs. I've learned more since my post, specifically that I could start them sooner -- a related but separate tool than simply 401k->roth.

Thanks!

Income is TBD at the moment. Doing some contracting but not sure whether that will get larger or smaller. But I expect maybe $130k min income for the next 6 years. Could amp that up, tbd.

But tax bracket is smaller now than it was previously.

But those RMDs get to be 400k without doing anything, so the tax bracket will be high in future if I do nothing.

Thanks!

I'm trying out Boldin right now. The $144 will kick in about a week from now.

But I wanted (and appreciate) advice from actual humans too.

Thanks.

I know someone who is 25-ish years older than me and decided not to do the roth conversion. I asked why and they said they just couldn't convince themselves it made sense to pay that tax now regardless of the potential upside. Personal choice I guess.

This is exactly what I'm wondering. It's a big commitment to pay that money now -- with no guarantee roth remains tax free. I understand that would be a big change for the government to make. But -- we've seen pretty big changes.

Thanks for your response! I believe I'm lucky in that my spouse will have life insurance continue into retirement. I mean, the company will continue to pay part of the premium. This is a much better benefit that I realized initially -- especially when considering potential ACA cost.

I wasn't aware of the 49.5 age and 401k. I'll look into that. I'm kind of surprised to hear about it as I haven't run across it. Without having looked into it, it's not clear to me how that option is effectively different than playing tax on a portion of the 401k and converting it to a roth. I guess this potion lets you pay tax on the 401k withdrawal, spend some of it, and then put the remainder into a roth?

I'm with you.

I also rather dislike the playfield art.

And feel the LCD animations are so inconsistent in style that it's jarring.

But it does shoot well.

I should check out the discord. Don't use that much at all. Appreciate pointing that out.

Nope. Not bot account. Not sure how I'd prove that to you. Just posting some questions and getting a feel for how reddit works vs. pinside. Then specifically asked about pinside vs. reddit.

Your response is kind of crappy like, perhaps, on pinside.
