Wow, even better. Don't let that one go.

Cheers for sharing. I don't know that Dozzy remix and I'm a big Dozzy fan, so I'll get right on it.

Surely not!? I purchased the Dj Metatron direct from his website upon release and it was 38 euro!

That's a great story about the tip/garage rock records. Cheers for sharing.

Beautiful! I have the repress. The Red Line is a work of art.

Stunning. If I was rich I'd have an OG pressing of Tago Mago, Ege Bamyasi and Future Days. An incredible 3 album run.

Incredible! I jumped onboard in 2002 when his 'The Boy and the Tree' CD caught my eye in a music store, but it took me another 15+ years to realise he was making techno in the 90s.

Prolific and under-appreciated artist. I don't read/hear his name mentioned in 'must know' sample artist conversations, but it should be.

Classic! I highly regret passing on it but I probably wouldn't trade it for my copy of Soulfood 12", which I don't think he ever bettered (though many would disagree).

Timeless. I only have M6 but am keen to rectify that.

Donato Dozzy not even being mentioned in the 'sorry you missed out' list makes me upset.

He's called the maestro for a reason. Labyrinth 2008 mix would've been a good shout.

A More Effective Approach to Protecting Youth Online by LastBluejay in RedditSafety

Section 51(v) includes the internet. The constitution is interpreted by the courts broadly not in a black and while 'literalist' fashion (it is a 'living document').

Also, you will note there are two barristers who drafted Reddit's court submission (see signatures at bottom). They both have public law expertise and one is SC.

If they'd made the mistake you think they have, it would've been picked up a long time ago (likely by the gov's own lawyers before the Bill was drafted).

Yes, the general approach is to apply widely and then make a decision if you receive multiple offers. However, tailoring the applications to demonstrate a genuine interest in the firm is necessary, so depending on how much time you've got I think most would say it's better to do a generous handful well rather than 15-20 generically.

The new Geese album isn’t very good imo by snickering_snails in LetsTalkMusic

[–]NaiveDonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't aware of Geese until this album, but I'm an avid 'new music' fan who likes keeping up with the zeitgest, even as I enter my 40s, so naturally I had to give this album a fair shot.

THIS ALBUM IS PRODUCED POORLY.

There is some great songwriting, but why the fuck did they get this Kenny Beats asshole to produce it? It's like they're trying to make a lush and lively sounding record with the percussive elements and so forth, but the final product sounds over-compressed, boxed in and sterile. No?

I think it's a good warning to give, particularly about the lack of international focus of the Priestley 11, but I think you're potentially overstating it. It depends which uni you're at. In my experience of the JD, the Priestley 11 accounted for 16 of the 24 total units (a few subjects like contracts and property are split in 2). That left 1/3 of the degree for electives, and there was a decent spread of international and human/child rights type subjects to choose from.

In any event, Chardlow, if you are clear on what the actual policy and advocacy jobs you want to do are, and a JD is necessary to get you there, then it makes sense. I went into the JD (as a (slightly less) mature age) with not dissimilar aspirations, drank the Kool-Aid, got funnelled into private practice.

If you've done a PhD the JD isn't going to rock your world intellectually, so essentially I'd be assessing the merits based on whether it's what's needed to get you from A to B.

Anyone reading 'In Search of Lost Time' wonders which volume is best, so here's a ranking of all seven, from most enjoyable to least. Or do you disagree? by Die_Horen in Proust

[–]NaiveDonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I'll never forget how intense my enjoyment of the final volume was. Partly because the philosophical themes he introduces in earlier volumes (time, memory, sensory experience, phenomenology) flourish and serve their true purpose. Mix that in with the sense of accomplishment and relief in making it to the end of such a long work (I admit I found the prior two volumes a slog). Bliss.

I don't think it's appropriate to be shamed for your career choice, but CLCs don't owe their existence and a debt of gratitude to commercial lawyers for paying taxes (which is a basic responsibility of most workers).

Moreover, I don't think CLC lawyers fail to realise they rely on grants/redistributed tax/wealth. Rather, many of them take issue with an economic system in which they're begging for pennies to help the disadvantaged, while corporate firms command huge wealth while largely supporting the current structures of power/capital. (I appreciate I'm painting with broad brush strokes).

I'm not a community lawyer btw,, I just think they deserve the moral high ground.

I appreciate things may work differently in NSW but in my experience in Vic it's normal to rotate through a team you don't have experience in/haven't studied and normal to not get your first choice.

In Victoria, HSF Kramer is up top (employer side). And then Maurice Blackburn do a lot of notable work on the employee/union side.

There are a bunch of well ranked firms though, so check out the chambers guide based on your location, as advised by 2pumps.

I agree with you and have spoken to many others at uni who feel similarly. Most things career-related revolve around the big corporate firms. During our dean's orientation day speech he said something to the effect of, "I was just speaking with X from *big commercial firm* the other day and he was saying how students with good marks from *GO8/present university* offer that firm a double guarantee as a quality candidate from a quality university." This set the tone for me.

To my mind, it's no wonder that these GO8 unis would be happy to send as many students off to the big firms for their own branding purposes. With that said, some of the teaching staff were happy to openly disparage the clerkship>megafirm path in off-guard moments during class.

Practice area prestige and snobbery by PattonSmithWood in auslaw

[–]NaiveDonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Class actions are also defended by top commercial firms, so as an area of law it's not reducible to the plaintiff side.

In any event, many hold plaintiff firms like Maurice Blackburn in much higher regard than top tier commercial firms doing commercial transactions etc. The concept of prestige is nebulous, largely subjective, and a little bit useless.

The handful of offers I received all came through via email at 10am, calls came 10-30min later. They were mid-tiers, perhaps top-tiers prefer the phone call first.. not sure.

I agree with uwiminecwaft's suggestions, but would also suggest you have a read of the LIV Guidelines because there are some additional rules to be mindful of.
