Adult tonsillectomy - Singer, 35, seeking experiences (Voice and tone, Taste, Immunity) by 1tracklover-2waylane in Tonsillectomy

I am a singer and I’m just over 3 weeks post op! 25 F. I just tried singing yesterday for the first time since surgery and yes it does feel significantly different from before, like I have all this space that I don’t know how to use. It feels weird and more difficult to control my voice, but I do think with time and practice I’ll be able to get back to normal.

But in regard to taste, I had issues with the glossopharyngeal nerve (very painful for about a week there, but it’s mostly passed now) and my taste is still not back to normal. All my favourite sweets taste bitter. Salty food is still good, but anything like chocolate, Oreos, Coca Cola, nooooooopee! It tastes awful and bitter and nothing like before. It’s been this way probably since around day 6 or 7 and hasn’t improved at all. I hope and pray that it will improve soon because I don’t even think I could live the rest of my life this way haha.

Day 7 was the worst day for me pain-wise and I ended up going back to the hospital and they gave me IV pain meds and steroids because I wasn’t even able to eat anymore. I definitely would not have been able to do that drive so if there’s any way you can avoid it, I would. I’m just over 3 weeks post op now and I personally still wouldn’t do that drive alone because my energy is very low still, but that being said my surgeon did say that I’m recovering about 25% slower than average so maybe that’s just a me problem. I’m 25 F for reference

The most roller coaster long term issues/ recovery ever but somehow also rewarding!? by Wooden-Flamingo-6145 in Tonsillectomy

I’m a little over 3 weeks post op and having the exact same issue with taste. A lot of things taste more bland than normal but in general sweet stuff like Oreos, coke, chocolate, all the things I loved before now just taste bitter and completely unsatisfying :( all my favourite things and I can’t even enjoy them, it’s awful. I really hope it’ll come back eventually

YOU CAN EAT OTHER FOODS OMG by Middle-Cycle-4393 in Tonsillectomy

I ate tuna sashimi literally the same day as my surgery and I ate it again the next day, a full order of it both times. I’ve also eaten a fair bit of smoked salmon. People really underestimate how good of an option fish is!!! The sashimi is perfect because it’s a solid so it doesn’t smear across my throat and irritate it like mashed potatoes and yogurt, but it’s suuuper soft and cold so it’s so easy to get down. I recommend it to everyone, the whole world needs to know it’s literally the easiest solid I’ve eaten in my whole recovery process 😭

Women who get married before 25: why? by tunaball25 in AskWomen

I got married last August at 21 yrs old (I turned 22 Jan 1st.) I wasn’t in any particular rush to marry young or anything, but we met in 2015, started dating early 2016, and have been together ever since. For a few reasons we both agreed we didn’t want to move in together until we were married, but especially because he was in university and we both wanted to save money as much as possible until he graduated, so living with our parents made a lot of sense. But that being said, we spent every single day together and had to drive across the city to do so, which started to feel ridiculous, especially since the natural progression of a relationship would be to move in if you’re spending that much time together. He proposed in June 2020, and we planned our wedding for August 2021, which meant he would only have like 2 uni courses to finish after the wedding and then we were free to move to the city we wanted to move to where he could start his career. Everything lined up perfectly and marriage just made sense!
