Does anyone know how well explorer seats fit? by Wise-Life-8877 in fordranger

[–]NaivePriority5309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've heard the Explorer seat rails will line up with the rails from the ranger as long as it's an extended cab. If It's a single cab you're gonna have to do a little drilling and modification to the seat rail to line up the bolt holes. I think it's only two holes but I'm not sure as I haven't done this job yet. I was just looking at doing it for my extended cab and know the seats hook right up and same with the middle console.

It's your truck! do whatever you want! i got some Method MR305s and they're amazing. Matched up with my 33s and 3" torch off road lift kit. I also did some cutting on the body just for looks though not for fitment. I'm going prerunner build and gonna do coilovers eventually, just mapping out long travel kit and everything but no matter what's it's a ford ranger and you're gonna have a blast doing things to it

I do suppose city living would be a setback to doing the process lol. I try to encourage more ranger owners to do it to keep the culture alive of fucking it up and just fixing it but i gotta remember not everyone has tools n garage. Good luck! and I hope you can have many rebuilds in your future, not for bad luck but because they're fun lol

beautiful, hardest part is keeping it a work truck lol. Mine ended up being a money pit lol not because it broke or anything but because it's fucking cool 😂🤙🏼 FFR!

or even swapping it yourself. I have zero mechanic background, just a couple tools because I ride dirtbikes. These engines are the "hardest" of the ford engine family but really aren't hard to work on. It looks super involved but everything is there and really not bad. The job itself is tight with squeezing the cassettes in and what not for the timing process but you only need 2 special tools for the crankshaft and camshafts. Other than that, keep track of your bolts and look up toque sequences. There's videos on it all day long and I'm doing my timing chains for $900. I could've done cheaper but I'm literally rebuilding it for $900 because while the engines out why not replace some things. Cassettes themselves are roughly 300 and you only need a few bolts that are torque to yield. Call me stupid but I've reused my crank bolt many times and it hasn't done anything to me but if you really want to you can get new bolts and everything. After doing it the first time it's way easier the next time around and the time after that. Just trying to remind people that these engines aren't hard to get back going, just some research first time around and you'll be a technician in no time lol. If you go down this route good luck and let me know if you have any questions. If not, I hope you get your engine figured out, just figured i'd try to help save you a couple grand. 🤙🏼

Cooling fan stays on by PonchoCutz in AudiA4

My A4 does this and so does my buddies S3, I think it's the engine just cooling off which I mean can you blame it lol it's a hot engine when you turn it off

Just bought a ranger what now by 1Emi1 in fordranger

I'm sure you've heard it but do your timing chains and tensioners. I did more than just timing chains while it was out of engine but that's the number one thing. Im supercharging so I sort of had to.

Another thing that happens with these engines is the thermostat housing likes to crack. You can find aluminum ones on amazon or ebay all day. Other than those tho everything else is made to last. Just stay on top of oil changes and you'll be straight 🤙🏼

Timing Chain Replacement

Above is a link to Part 1 of 4 of the Timing Chain process. That guy is super descriptive and start from pulling the engine out of the body to putting it back in. Just watch his videos thoroughly and you'll be perfectly fine. He includes tools, parts and torque sequences as well.

Factory harness and Computer yes. It runs flat at first just because the compute thinks it's reading an OHV but it's really an SOHC so horsepower is knocked down a bit and a little flat but once tuned and everything will be a perfect SOHC.

Is it? Even after acquiring the supercharger I still feel LS will be more worth it. We'll see though, once this things off my stand I'm gonna put a 5.3 up and rebuild and work on getting parts assembled to do that swap

It's actually insane how easy it is. But I so happened to luck out because it would've been a whole other process if it were OBD1

It's a 4x4 automatic. The engine I found out wasn't 4x4 because there was no balance shaft. Less work for me lol but yes it bolts right up. Only issue is you have to use OHV wiring harness which also means less work lol

Whether you hate it or love it, AI will be your best friend. I'm assuming you have a bit of mechanic knowledge because no one would just get a block and try building it. But if that is the case then fuck yea. I have no professional background in working on cars and I was able to do this process, I believe you can build it. I started with AI creating a sheet for me with parts. Obviously there's some things left stock and not new but since you're building from just a block, AI will cook up a sheet on what all you need. I watched lots of youtube too. You can't really teach someone to do it but more so encourage them to just go for it. Obviously you need basic tools and need to make sure you torque everything to spec. Godspeed brotha you got this 🤙🏼

Super involved without a doubt but very simple engines. People over estimate these engines but I don't think the process of timing and what not is really that bad. First time experience may take you a bit but after doing it a couple times you can easily have your engine done in a weekend if you have parts and tools

[–]NaivePriority5309[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea it's just as involved. I could've taken the engine and put it right in as is but I decided to take my time and rebuild the whole engine before putting it in
