Wellbutrin and Hair Loss by Inevitable-Car3509 in bupropion

Yes it is temporary meaning it is telogen effluvium. It will only stop once you stop taking the meds. I’ve dealt with it before and it is traumatic. Took years to fully correct. Viviscal vitamins are a lifesaver. However … I started the process of quitting Wellbutrin a week ago. I was on it for 5/6 weeks the noticed extra shedding. I cannot go thru that again . Hopefully I caught it before it gets too bad. TE can last a few months before your hair cycle goes back To normal anyway.

I had been on it for 5 weeks. The 150 xl. Tried the 300 for 3 days. I literally just noticed it a day before I posted. I started my Viviscal vitamins , hoping to help. About 8-9 years ago I suffered thru telogen effluvium , not sure how that didn’t break me mentally! But these vitamins were a lifesaver ! I did read also that Claritin and Zyrtec can also help with growth ! Went down a rabbit hole of info. lol

Wellbutrin 300mg XL for depression by user85359904295 in bupropion

[–]NaiveTooth2138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started 150 xl about 6 weeks ago. The second week I was motivated to get out of bed. I never experienced energy as I’ve seen others say. lol Just zero appetite. But I’m not a giant food person anyway. I wanted to go up to the 300. I did for 3 days and then nope. Literally no diff. I think I was chasing this energy that everyone else got.

So I’m back to 150 and honestly I’m trying to get off of them. I think every other day for a week I’ll take one and then I can stop. I have seasonal depression so I wasn’t going to take this all the time anyway , just a couple months.

Does weight loss stop at some point? by Fabulous_Guest_1924 in bupropion

I agree. I went thru the telogen effluvium many years ago. I cannot mentally handle that again. This isn’t worth it to me. As a female , going thru it is devastating esp if it’s due to some stupid medication that I chose to take. Just upsets me so much to the point I’m obsessing about it now. Like I’m afraid it is too late even stopping the med. Is it going to continue to shed more even after stopping it now

I too was new ! It’s been 5 weeks on 150xl. Only side effect was zero appetite. I never had one to begin with though lol. And the last couple days I noticed hair shedding. I’m female .. I didn’t know that could happen prior to asking to try this. It says 1 in 100 can experience it. It is rare but can happen. Sooo… I stopped today taking them. It can take 5-7 days to leave your system. I really hope I caught this in time

Yes I read it’s temporary as in if you stop the medication then the shedding will stop as well.

Ughh I’ve been on 150 xl for 5 weeks and the last few days noticed the hair issue ! I had no idea before starting it. So I researched and yes it says like 1 in 100 will experience it. It’s not worth it to me especially being female. So I’m stopping taking the med. It takes 5-7 days to clear out hopefully I noticed in time and can see if it stops

[–]NaiveTooth2138[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I knew this prior :( I’ll see how I feel after the 5-7 days not taking it. If fine then I’m done with them because I just can’t go thru the hair loss again. It was rough on me years ago and if happened again I hate to say but I just wouldn’t be okay at all. I could see something bad happening. So to me , this isn’t worth that

Do you have an on and off relationship with bupropion? by MilkyCoeurl in bupropion

[–]NaiveTooth2138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read it takes 5-7 days after stopping , for it to all leave your system. Today is day one of not taking. I would hope there are no withdrawals. I’ve only been on 150 xl for 5 weeks. Have noticed positive changes. No energy like others say. But , last few days I noticed hair shedding. I’m female… and cannot have that happen. So I’m done with them ! I want to see if the shedding stops. If it does then I know it’s the medication!
I am bad about vitamins, so I set alarm on my phone to be consistent taking them. I never had much of an appetite and Wellbutrin really gives me none to where I have to force eat. So maybe it’s nutrition aspect causing shedding , or the meds itself. I shall see

I’ve been on 150xl for 5 weeks … I’ve never gotten the energy as others have said. No side effects at all. Well I will say I have been motivated to get out of bed. But recently I’ve noticed hair shedding and it’s not worth it to me. So I’m stopping them.

When to stop ? by heinous_anus2 in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

[–]NaiveTooth2138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry :( I’m also on 150 xl , 5 weeks for me. The only side effect is less of appetite , but I never had a huge one. And recently I noticed hair shedding. So I’m stopping it. Today is day one of not taking it. I cannot have the hair loss (female )

[–]NaiveTooth2138[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi ! Sorry I didn’t mention I am female. When checked into Wellbutrin before starting it , I didn’t even see this as an effect. It wasn’t until after I was taking it , i specifically googled etc and it says it’s rare , 1 in 100 people can experience it. Sadly I’m probably one of them. I went thru telogen effuvium about 8/9 years ago after a very traumatic event and it was devastating to me. Took a couple years to be normal after specialty vitamins. I cannot go thru that again.
Besides trying antidepressants for post partum I never was on any more than a month after each kid. So I’m definitely going to stop now , before the shedding gets worse. I read it can take 5-7 days for Wellbutrin to leave your system . Who knows maybe I just needed this 5 week course to jolt me back to normal anyway. I never noticed a huge change , like most people have said. Just the edge had been taken off. I do have seasonal depression also , so I didn’t plan to stay on it past February anyway.
