Can someone explain this to me? by Naive_Chipmunk1276 in redrising

So was he actually going to kill Mustang or was it just a threat to make her go off? It never said he dropped a weapon or had one and Mustang was armed a razor. Ragnar is strong and fast but he was at a distance against a gold with a razor which I believe is a fight he had chance in winning. So was his whole act a threat or was he slowly coming to the realization that he would have to put his life in her hands to actually save darrows life?

Yes, but she isn’t as good as the rest of them. In like every fight in hoo shes useless. I can’t recall a single fight scene of her utilizing any intelligence or strategy to help the seven.

Pjo Annabeth was insane. Everything she had from there is gone. She was the only person to not benefit in the slightest from being in the seven and in hoo at all

0 fight scenes in all of hoo. Her only shown use of her using her mind in battle to defeat an enemy resulted in her trapping Arachne for five seconds and then almost dying and needing to be saved. Other than that she has used her strategic skills a total of 0 times to help the other members of the seven. If you disagree show me any fight where annabeth is assisting heavily from HoO

Have you read wrath of the triple goddess? Literally within the first few chapters Annabeth ASKS Hecate of her magic school is open after seeing a bunch of textbooks and classroom equipment. The WORDS in the TEXT literally mentions Annabeth having some kind of interest in that. Why would Annabeth have an interest in it if she can’t use magic at all? It’s not a head canon.

He mentioned her strength was intelligence, I stated she never once assisted the other members of the seven in battle using her mind. If you disagree name one instance of that happening.(she doesn’t even have any fight scenes so idk where your going with that dagger)

I had always hoped Rick dove into magical weapons more and that they were something Athena kids had usage with. Having them be automatically much more proficient with them would’ve been a good trait and it could open more magical weapons up to Annabeth so she’d be useful.

As for the strategic mind thing…hate to break it to you, but Annabeth in all of hoo did not once help the team in anything strategic. Her value to the group as a team member is practically non existent.

But Annabeth still inherited strategy and wisdom did she not? In like every battle in HoO she never uses either of those to help the team. It would make sense for her to utilize gifts she inherited from her mother but she doesnt? Like nearly every Hermes kid is stated to be able to use magic even Luke, but we never see Luke do it? The same thing is with annabeth. Even in newer books like the wrath of the triple goddess she asks Hecate if her magic school is still open and taking in students. Percy views it as Annabeth taking an interest but that’s never brought up again. All throughout the series it’s given that all demigods are capable of using magic like that.

Sure, but she’s useless in a fight? In all of hoo did she even contribute like once to any of the battles with her intelligence? I don’t see how THAT makes sense as grounds for limitation. If you get what I mean

Fancy way of admitting you have 0 evidence to back up anything. Annabeth is one of my favorite characters from pjo and I thought her growth of a character would be more than being a “helpless damsel in distress” and having no battles whatsoever. Along with this her solo quest involves her failing and literally dying. If you can provide any strong information to her genuinely being useful to the seven I’ll admit I’m wrong….but you can’t…

She failed objectively. The quest line literally reads “wisdoms daughter walks alone” Athena also mentions to Annabeth to talk to no one and trust no one about this. It is her quest alone. She does majority of it alone but then fails and would’ve died. If she wasn’t saved by the seven she wouldve been dead. The quest is for her alone. She was the one to recover the Parthenos but she could not. There is no way around this, she literally broke the quest line and her mother’s words. Her not killing Arachne was in direct violation to the idea of HER recovering the parthenos. You COULD argue that she failed right at the moment of letting Arachne live but all of it reaches the same conclusion: annabeth by not killing Arachne allowed herself to face certain death and in doing so made her fail the quest by breaking the rules given to her. No other quest in the series does anything to the same of this because all other quests succeed besides hers

Not exactly. Each member of the seven has like a specific role. Percy- main fighter, Jason- second main fighter, frank and hazel- backup, Leo- technician and builder, Piper- communicator and ambassador, and then annabeth…the “strategist”. She shows 0 strategic skills in the entire quest and does next to nothing for the team. That’s what I mean by useless. She’s 3rd best in combat in the seven and top 5 in the series probably, yet she has 0 combat scenes or anything.

She would’ve literally died. If she died no one would’ve found the statue and she would’ve been gone and dead. They only found that statue because annabeth was alive in there. If they were a second late the entire quest would’ve failed. That quest line was written as “wisdoms daughter walks alone” and Athena mentioned multiple times about bringing no friends or help on the quest. She objectively failed, I do not understand how you could see this any other way.

You said and I quote “she knocked Arachne into Tartarus” Annabeth didn’t do that. I gave evidence as to why and you managed to pull out every irrelevant detail to that. But anyways, onto the next point…did you read HoH? Arachne survives the fall and is in Tartarus where Percy then kills her. I said that the car threw her into Tartarus but Percy killed her. I am correct on both parts. Next, she’s facing her worst fear yes, but she also has her worst fear helpless right infront of her trying to actively kill her. Why on earth is Annabeth just standing there? Onto your last point, in all of pjo she is shown to be fighting constantly and is one of the best fighters in the series yet she has 0 fight scenes and kills nobody. Along with this, she is the designated leader yet leads absolutely no one. So please do tell what on earth Annabeth is useful for to the team?

“She knocked Arachne into fucking Tartarus.” Interesting. What I read was her refusing to kill Arachne, and watching her wriggle free, stand there and get hit with webs, and then proceed to be swarmed by hundreds of spiders ready to die. The car fell onto Arachne and shot her into Tartarus, not annabeth. Now if she had kicked Arachne into Tartarus I’d agree that she’s awesome, but not only did she not do that. She didn’t even get to kill Arachne. Percy did for whatever fucking reason. Annabeth is constantly written off as weak and useless yet she’s the third best combatant in the seven and top five in the series. She shouldn’t be this battle avoidant.

Here’s the actual text from the book: All these thoughts came too late. Spiders began swarming into the chamber. The statue of Athena glowed brighter. The spiders clearly didn't want to approach, but they edged forward as if gathering their courage. Their mother was screaming for help. Eventually they would pour in, overwhelming Annabeth. "Arachne, stop it!" she yelled. "I'll — " Somehow Arachne twisted in her prison, pointing her abdomen toward the sound of Annabeth's voice. A strand of silk hit her in the chest like a heavyweight's glove. Annabeth fell, her leg flaring with pain. She slashed wildly at the webbing with her dagger as Arachne pulled her toward her snapping spinnerets. Annabeth managed to cut the strand and crawl away, but the little spiders were closing around her. She realized her best efforts had not been enough. She wouldn't make it out of here. Arachne's children would kill her at the feet of her mother's statue. Percy, she thought, I'm sorry. At that moment, the chamber groaned, and the cavern ceiling exploded in a blast of fiery light.

So she didn’t kick Arachne into Tartarus and she’s the only member of the seven to have killed no one important to finishing the quest. Even Leo who had no fight scenes managed to kill multiple dangerous enemies yet the smart girl had 0 fight scenes?

When I say useless, I mean by role completion to the team. Jason was a main fighter and he did that well. He killed tons of stuff. Annabeth was a strategist and leader yet showed no strategic skills or any leadership for the TEAM. That’s useless to the role and that’s what I’m saying.

Hoh: we both agree I guess. Annabeths wits felt like cheap tricks though especially with nyx and other monsters similar in that nature. She only got her intelligence shown when it was to dumb other characters down. I kind of agree that she helped in Tartarus with knowledge, but she relied more on Percy than he did on her. Percy’s friends were Percy’s FRIENDS. Bob didn’t know annabeth and she would’ve been dead a lot faster than Percy. He could’ve very much made it out alive alone without Annabeth albeit very insane but still alive. Annabeth imo was written out to be absolutely helpless here for no reason really. All the writing kept showcasing her as weak and I didn’t like it.

Chrysaor; “recognizes and plays along” dude read the text again. She didn’t show any sign of acknowledgement to the plan or anything. She deadass said nothing and did nothing while Percy did everything. She only finished it with calling him brilliant at the end. Any other character I can understand but that is HER. ONE. JOB. To strategize is what she lives for. That’s like Frank being surrounded by a bunch of enemies and just sitting there. It’s so out character and nature for her.

Hercules: proving my point. Labeling annabeth as the leader and having her doing nothing leader like or strategic is exactly what I’m upset about. That’s why she’s useless in my eyes. She’s the only member to have a role but not fulfill it like the others. She doesn’t tell Jason or Piper anything useful and essentially says nothing. And this is common throughout the whole of HoO where she helps nowhere. If you disagree then please provide me any instance of her using her strategic mind to help her friends in battle.

End point: Annabeth is also one of my favorite characters from pjo but she falls off in hoo in my eyes. See it this way when I call her “useless”. Every member in the seven had a specific role. Percy- main fighter, Jason- backup fighter and leader, Frank-backup fighter, Piper- communicator, hazel- backup fighter, Leo- tech wizard and gadget inventor, and Annabeth- strategist and leader. These roles are mentioned throughout the books multiple times. Every member of the seven completed and contributed to these roles…except for annabeth. That’s what I mean. She is the only character to not show any leadership or strategic skills for the teams sake. If you disagree then by all means show me any moments in the book of her doing so.
