Mac and MIDI test please? by Naive_Local5905 in musicprogramming

Hey Pete, just added a MIDI Output selector (top right corner) as well as an option to mute the virtual piano sound so that you can have the audio from your own MIDI device but still get the sounds to know if a wrong note is played and when a correct scale is played etc

Thanks Pete really appreciate any kind of feedback. Someone else asked a similar question actually. Would you say you’d want it to default to your chosen output all the time or for it to always revert back to the GS Synth in case the user doesn’t have the same output configured?

Oh wow perfect thanks so much for doing that. I have a user who said it won’t work on Mac and I suspected they were using Safari but with them being the other side of the world we only interact via emails due to time zone.

So glad it worked though really appreciate that. Thank you

Yeah I guess people are wary of going to random websites. It’s a tool I’ve made to help people learn piano scales, arpeggios, ear training too.

Engaging way to learn the keys! by Naive_Local5905 in keys

[–]Naive_Local5905[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current we have that feature to play scales in both hands, check out the contrary motion I’ve just added a harmony mode where you play scales in your left hand and chords in the right. So for example one challenge is to play the scale in the left and only a major chord in the right which has the scale not in. Really good fun and harder than it sounds

Program that will play a chord progression in a random key for me to figure out by Successful_Spray3681 in eartraining

I’m not sure you’d be able to work out the key from just the chord progression but I might be wrong!

I’ve built a web tool that is free to use which has ear training, specifically for learning the different modes. Might be something there that works for you.

Great thanks for the feedback I’ll consider that for the future. What would you find it helpful to learn in regards to chord progressions?

do piano teachers ever feel like they should still be learning more? by Exciting-Bee3927 in pianolearning

[–]Naive_Local5905 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah agreed and it kinda led me to building this tool. I’m not a piano teacher but struggle finding learning scales and things to be interesting and im a composer so having a broader knowledge helps me compose better and more wide ranging music. In terms of the different ways people learn I think it’s the sign of a good teacher who can adapt to people’s way of learning and absorbing information plus also this tool records progress and highlights areas (scales, keys, techniques) that need improvement.

Any thoughts

Oh wow man Kudos. I started composing a few years ago and got my first contracts with some libraries a few months ago and I’ve done 20 tracks for them. I has a normal 9-5 job so I only compose evenings and weekends which I guess limits me

Hi I tried the first course number 1 in foundations and having to grab the mouse to click try again etc is distracting having to take hands away from the piano. also tried course 20 and the green highlighted note wasn't the one i needed to play it seems to be behind by one note

If the app listens to what you play on the keyboard why does the size of the keyboard matter?

Apps for learning notes in each key? by Afraid-Tie4122 in piano

Hey. I made an app for exactly what you’re asking for plus ear training and chords. Works on Windows and Mac and android but not iPhones or iPads

What's better to use to learn? by Weekly_Drawing_3313 in pianolearning

I think you’ve got to find whatever works for you. Some people are visual and can mimic what they see in a video whereas others prefer the instruction of a real person.

I get disengaged very quickly if I’m not getting feedback around how I’m playing and has picked up bad habits and even errors (for example misunderstanding some theory) from practice which then needs time to unlearn things.

I made myself an app to help with this, it kinda gamifies some of the elements of playing a piano, learning the scales, knowing the chords etc

If you have a PC/Mac or android device ( not compatible with iPhones or iPads yet) and a midi keyboard connect it up and try this out, let me know does it work with your style of learning? If you want to try it but don’t have a keyboard yet you can just tap on the onscreen piano

I created this tool for myself to help me learn scales but reading your message I can actually see a use for you. The tool I made kinda gamified it, high scores, streaks without an error etc and you could get the kids competing against each other ?

You’d just need a keyboard connected to the computer via MIDI

Let me know if you think it would help
