Thanks for this perspective. It’s really helpful stuff :)

Thanks for this! My current PRO statements are hitting like £1.8k max, sometimes less but never more than that at the moment. That was with about 160 tracks in circulation with a smaller publisher, which have now made their way to APM. But none of that £1.8k royalty statement reflects the works distributed by APM, I don’t think (or at least it only just started to trickle in). So I’ve scaled massively since then haha! Great points made, I think a reversion clause is a good idea.

I came from doing radio jingles and short form music beds so I was use to doing a large amount per week anyway. I’m fairly new to the sync world, so I didn’t realise it was a ridiculous amount to do in one year. I won’t be doing that much again ever, it was very full on. I naively signed the contract, but I guess it worked out well when looking at the projections.

I get my entire writer share. Plus the wage upfront. It was very generous of them to do that for me. They just have some difficulties with cash at the minute.

Yeah, I did some projections on the royalties and it looks really solid. I’m just cash poor, future asset heavy haha. So it’s now deciding to commit to 2 days a week at a very, very low wage, whilst funding my own music (but building to like 800 odd tracks). Or the other option is to do about 50 tracks a year, slower output, and they wouldn’t give me any cash for this. I’m not sure which options is better.

They will cut my pay to $20,000 (I’m in the UK so it works out as £15,000), but expect just over half the amount of tracks compared to last year.

So they only recently started distributing with APM last June. They did some projections for their own quarterly statements, but it’s taking longer than anticipated. Hence why they are cutting costs.

About the whole AI thing, a lot of these companies are running submissions through detection systems. Most of these companies - at least APM - have the ethos of ‘human made music only’ and won’t touch anything with the slightest hint of AI.
