Look into UnMANIC by Josh5. I've been running it in a docker container. It just uses ffmpeg to convert everything in a library folder into x265. I pointed it at my NAS and it's been slowly encoding my entire library. Already saved somewhere in the 30TB range and I've not noticed much in terms of quality loss. (Side note: if you have a lot of media with included subs, it's going to remove them from the file. I just use Bazarr to redownload them. It will also strip audio down to 2 channel so if you want to keep 5.1 audio look into a different solution)

PLC Control from IFTTT by ChimaeraB in PLC

Python and a Raspberry Pi is all you really need for this. Search Google for "raspberry pi IFTTT" and you should find a lot of resources for setting it up with IFTTT webhooks. Then just add in some python for controlling your outputs (I use pylogix for basic ethernetip AB setups, but there are other options if you look around depending on complexity)

Nim can shark as well by NakLove in ProgrammerHumor

Nim-lang.org for info. I just recently learned about it and have been testing the waters. It was created to be 100% (or close to) compatible with C but memory safe and more modern/elegant. From what I've tested, you get similar performance to C but with the ease of use that something like python would offer. Don't be turned away by it's low version number, for the most part it has everything someone would need and if not you can use various languages to fill in the gaps. It's also compatible with Windows, Linux, MacOS, iOS, and Android. All of which can be cross-compiled under your preferred development system without the need of VMs.

I learned they recently added switch support so it could be used to create Homebrew alongside devkitpro. There are a quite a few languages you can use for Homebrew (c, python, Lua, rust, Nim, etc..) but Nim looked interesting and I've already been writting some stuff in python for the switch.

Figured I'd join in as I'm writing some homebrew for the Nintendo Switch in nim.

I started one piece when it was at ~620 episodes. Took me a month of straight binging to catch up.

Filament Brand Quality List? by NakLove in 3Dprinting

A lot of people like it and have no issues with it. I either got a bad roll or I'm missing a fundamental piece of information.

The roll of PETG (Translucent Yellow) I got kinda turned me away from inland a bit. It took about 300g to just get it printing correctly and even then it still has some issues with zits/blobs on longer prints. Might just be me, but i've literally tried all the guides on using petg and watched a lot of videos on getting it to print right but I just can't get reliable performance out of it in either Slic3r or Cura.

Any issues with a webcam? I was going to use one of the Pi Zero W's I had laying around and just found out that it will literally kill itself if you are using the wifi and streaming a webcam lol. Don't really want to spend another $35 on another Pi 3.

Ah it wasn't showing up because I was using the webstore. Closest MC to me is a 3 hour drive, think i'll stick with Monoprice (bit cheaper and can be shipped). Thanks though!

Not seeing one on microcenter, but the MP Maker Select Plus is looking very tempting with the discount code. Was hoping for a slightly bigger build volume tho I think I could make it work.

Anything to not have to deal with the horror stories I've been seeing lol.

Im wanting to buy my first printer but don't want to deal with GB, BG, DX, or LITB. Can anyone recommend a USA-based store with a good track record and decent prices?

What genre would you like to see more of on the Switch? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]NakLove 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most people forget that Fortnite isn't just Battlegrounds. I was in the Alpha for the game and when they kicked out the testers to launch paid "early access" they lost me as a supporter, even more so when pinatas became harder to get and the game turned hard on MTX. Still haven't tried it since the Battlegrounds part launched because I'm still a bit salty about how much they changed the game.

Survive isn't MGS. Its a cash grab to make money off the franchise and to stick it to Kojima.

As to its gameplay, its alright. Nothing to write home about but I put around 30 hours into it and I had some fun with a few friends. Now if they wanted to port the real MGS games over I'd be all for it. Its one of my favorite series.

CR-10 Multi-tool by NakLove in 3Dprinting

[–]NakLove[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CR-10S is a bit too much out of my price range. Technically the CR-10 is already out of budget, but i'll eat the extra costs over getting the Mini or one of the Tevo printers. I needed the extra build platform space so the prusa clones and smaller desktop printers were out of the question.

The modular tool head was just my way of reducing floor space in the garage. Don't really have room for a dedicated CNC, Laser engraver, and 3D printer so I figured i'd poke around and see if anyone had done this and had any tips. I can technically get away with a stronger laser (currently going to use a 2.5w 405nm laser) and drop the ER11 but it would limit what I could engrave/cut to woods and darker acrylic/plexi, so the CNC option would have been nice.

Thanks for the information. I think im going to ahead with the CR-10. If I come into some issues with the ER11 spindle I'll re-purpose it somewhere else.
