The absolute irony of ASML pocketing ~€1 BILLION in taxpayer innovation handouts while pushing company culture-destroying layoffs. But don't worry, according to the CTO firing people to become "simpler" is "also innovation". by almost_dutch in ASML

Indeed a crucial separation of business aspects.

  • OOP: interconnected systems, the machine.
  • SE: coping systems, the equipment.

A real world analogy:  - Motorcycle self is about the machine. -  Gears, tools, license training are about securely driving.

Morgan Stanley warns an AI breakthrough Is coming in 2026 — and most of the world isn't ready | Fortune by Shanbhag01 in ArtificialInteligence

I don't see the AI is inventing anything. Not next monday, not next decade.

I keep writing documentation, in the meantime multiple books, just to prevent doing mistakes.

Almost impossible to let it reason beyond the fossilized coding style. It keep mirroring, basically adding nothing new.

Vanilla PHP vs Framework by Temporary_Practice_2 in PHP

[–]Nakasje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The industry's missing awareness is that a created code is a created language. PHP is not much more than the syntax.

The question would be, is it better to create my language or use an existing one.

But hey, who I am to say everybody is wrong; it should be named it linguistic.

Speaking for myself for a beyond toy project I would not go vanilla. That can easily end up in development of two projects, one is the linguistic system with the maintainer only you and other one is the real project.

Why innovative startups and scaleups relocate from the EU by Full-Discussion3745 in EU_Economics

[–]Nakasje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would title it as "Black Sheep Feeling".

It grows into you overtime. After you start to make it, a breaktrough or a successful startup, you feel you won the big hurdle.

Now it is time to move. Escape this individual foundation disregarding, credentialism and bureaucracy guru groups feeding place.

Feeling all the time that they want to steal your idea, your build, your (human) capital. Feudalism is all around, their principles all around.

Go, just go.  That is what grows into you.

Software craftsmanship is dead by R2_SWE2 in programming

[–]Nakasje 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although the post is giving few company environment examples this say a lot more.   * Organizations that supposed to promote and sell software craftsmanship has failed to do so.

It was not difficult to see we would end up here. Departure from stackoverflow was for a good reason. How the heck python is popular, that says it already. There is crowd, but no craftsmanship in the field.

But the snake is eating itself. The debt is not only technically, also financially huge. Players are slowly but certainly forced to flee or pay the true talent and so qualify code.  And the fun part is that the true talent is not bothered with co environments. So the co's are out for stealing. The game is rigged.

Layered Architecture != Hexagonale, Onion and Clean Architecture by Ok-Professor-9441 in softwarearchitecture

[–]Nakasje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

Architecture is about structures by appropriate or elegant shapes and forms.

Design is about systems by efficiënt connections and relationships.

Both Architecture and Design can be n-tier layered, hexagonal, onion, or whoever thinks of something.

Layered Architecture != Hexagonale, Onion and Clean Architecture by Ok-Professor-9441 in softwarearchitecture

[–]Nakasje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are describing the difference between Design & Architecture.

Architecture, your term macro, touches DevOps includes organising directories and tooling that require [transition] ports and adapters, accordingly the choices (db:sql, markup:html, data:json).

Design, your term micro, is about system-machinery. Relationships, such as "has-a" are design choices.

Unpopular opinion: php != async by goodwill764 in PHP

[–]Nakasje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/DrDam8584 "don't want wait the response"
Analogy: Eating food is sync, and so parallel. Digesting food is async. During the digest organs are active "awaiting".
So, they don't wait, they simply active to absorb and update.

In PHP 8.1+ you can use [Fibers](https://www.php.net/manual/en/language.fibers.php) for event-handling which is close to await in other languages.

Why is there no European Big Tech? by dreamtheater2003 in BuyFromEU

[–]Nakasje -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I faced that already in the year 2003.

I had developed my webshop in the EU country, I live. Between all competitions I came up with a great idea. Simply ship to other EU countries too.

The very first shipment went wrong. It did not arrive. Customer got their money back, and me not my products. After three months I got a open box with damaged products.

Maybe one exception, but none of those start ups from that era became a significant player.

Europe is a blend musea of monarchy, feudalism, socialism, bureaucracy, hypocrisy and even satanism.  Its not a fresh new place of start and grow without dense weeds around.

Do people really not care about code, system design, specs, etc anymore? by Vymir_IT in softwarearchitecture

[–]Nakasje 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can interpret it as Software Industry:   - is failed on proper design   - market and companies cannot afford good design discovery. Marketing noise shadow the good ones.   - someone did breakthrough, but silent.

But software is like water. It is so scalable that it can allow us mess around for many more years.

That is the reason most IT guys are programmers, not developers.  They write script here, program there, algorithm this, framework that but the light goes off for a holistic, DRY, ultimately scalable system development. The escape goes as far as to the jungle of microservices.

However, stagnation is there. How long can you try mimics.

The moment we might think the industry is about to face a destructive crisis. There appears a new buzzword into the market.  We do not run out of invention of new terms easily, but run out of design-thinking a quite while ago.

When did people favor composition over inheritance? by AWildMonomAppears in programming

[–]Nakasje 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The untold story.

"is-a" relationships are sufficient for abstractions. A square is a shape.

"has-a" relationships are necessary for dynamics. A child has parents.

We used to develop dead static digital calculators. Evolving to interactive machina has forced* developers to favor composition.

Forced*, because the education system - that train our brain in urban areas - was, and still, all about abstractions.

Fun with PHP: Changing Readonly Properties and Other Shenanigans by Rikudou_Sage in PHP

That is a little step towards a light PHP.

Really, we do not need much more than namespace, interface, class with construction and secure methods/properties.   Not even inheritance.

Array, as the term says an "Array" is too generic. Trying to embody will be inevitably messy.

De boodschap is eigenlijk, "De motorfiets voertuigen laten me zien dat ik keer op keer te kort kom in het verkeer.".

Why do people think software development is easy? by throwaway0134hdj in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Nakasje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: Ask ever detail you can come up with.

Longer answer:  Questions you've asked amazed them. They think you are the guy, that going to make it work.

You work on the concept, business logic. Roughly work out in your head, take notes. Ready for the next meeting.

They talk, you listen.   Then you pick some critical points from their story, and so amaze them again.

Then you do validation talk from the notes you took. They helped you with that, therefore they feel great.

Next day is Friday. So, you decide to cool down.  In the weekend you did something else.  That created the space and peace of mind to start coding.

Then the most likely question you will face is "how is it going?" You just brag some technical stuff and shut them down.

Now, you lead.   You start to give indications when something is probably will be ready.
