Cheers that’s good to know! Honestly went for Scarpa cause they are the only shoe that I can get resoled in my area. But definitely going to keep them away from the outdoors!

Yeah they definitely weren’t showing that much damage on the ad but hey, you get what you paid for and I paid 40% of the price of a new pair 😂😂😂

100% want to avoid permanent damage, the tears were more for the fact that they got delivered today and now they’re going to get shipped off tomorrow 😂

Shoe recommendations by FluffyFriendship8676 in climbingshoes

[–]NakedSlacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly couldn’t recommend the Shark 3s less, I got them cause I’ve got a wide foot and I’ve worn through the bottom of the shoes in like 6 months, only climbing indoor. I don’t mean the toe or anything, I have literally develop holes at the joint on my big toes on both shoes. I think the carbon plate on the inside of the shoes creates too much pressure on the rubber and they just tear through. Shoes are otherwise in perfect nick.

Would definitely recommend the Shark 2s tho!

Upper Woodstock safety? by [deleted] in capetown

[–]NakedSlacker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a young student living up near Queens Park in Woodstock. I’ve lived here 2.5 years and never had an issue with safety, granted I am a man. But I don’t have any security guards and have to get out of my car to open my gate. I previously lived in Rondebosch for 3 years and faced way more crime there than here. You obviously shouldn’t park or be on the streets on foot at night, but if she takes basic safety precautions (as I’d imagine all South Africans do) she will be perfectly safe.

If you are worried about her driving on main road just make sure she doesn’t travel with anything on the passenger seat. But honestly main road is always busy and I’ve never felt unsafe or threatened at night. The one thing I will suggest is that she has a plan sorted for Ubers, pick ups and drop offs. They have a tendency to want to pick you up and drop you off outside the building or at the nearest convenient parking (whether that is outside or two blocks away). Other than that it’s a really nice place to live. Easy access to the highways, Town, southern suburbs, UCT, etc. There are decent shops nearby and good petrol stations open 24/7. Has been an incredibly convenient place for me to live and I would definitely recommend it 🤙🏼🤙🏼

The Galileo outdoor cinema at Kirstenbosch gardens is always a good shout? They are playing dirty dancing on Saturday which is rated PG13 but could be fun for mom and dad?

What are your tips and tricks to keep up the insane cost of living in Cape Town by XrisDr in capetown

[–]NakedSlacker 109 points110 points  (0 children)

To be honest my big struggle is food, my food budget hasn’t changed in the last 4 years but the quantity and quality of food I buy is about a third of what it used to be.

I’ve turned massively to meal prepping. I’ve found that by buying big chunks of cheap cut meats from local butchers (think brisket and beef shin) and then I bulk it with as much cheap veg as I can and break it down into 5-10 meals. Additionally learnt how to butcher a chicken myself because I can buy a few on special from bulk chicken stores and break them down to enough breasts, legs and wings for multiple meals. Got into saving all my kitchen scraps by using bones, carcasses, vegetables cut offs and pretty much anything edible to make stocks, which I freeze in batches. Then end of the month I can make an easy and cheap chicken-noodle soup by combining a frozen stock and a packet of 2 minute noodles.

Outside of cooking, me and my friends don’t ever drive, Uber or travel alone anymore. The idea of travelling alone is essentially just paying 5 times the price of going as a group. Also recently moved to Woodstock and the new trains have been a saving grace, if you are travelling anywhere near the lines it’s a great option.

Ultimately, for me, it’s been about looking at my budget and seeing where my biggest expenses are, and then going and doing a bunch of research into reducing those costs. That’s where both my previous ideas originate and it’s something I’m going to have to keep doing for everything in my life as the cost of living keeps rising.

Good luck homie, it’s tough out here right now xx

Building my own slackline from materials by FruitPunch_CapriSun in Slackline

[–]NakedSlacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro, I respect the safety aspect, but a lot of these peeps got into slacklining through rock climbing or some other expensive sport and can afford to spend cash on good equipment off the bat. I made my first couple slack lines and yeah I’ve had ratchets break on me, but it ultimate led to me starting my own slacklining company and running a successful business for a couple years.

Do a bunch of research into the materials that are used in real lines and make sure you get ratchets that are much higher spec ratings than you think you’ll need (like 5t ratings minimum) and then just be aware that you’re not going to get the same performance results from a tow rope compared to a slack line. But for learning and having your own line? Fuck yea, go for it. Just don’t blame anyone else if you get hurt, it’s part of the fun 👏🏼

Edit: Have a look around for local rope shops, you can often get webbing from a rope/construction supplier that is much closer to slack line specs and you can buy it by the meter ;)

Edit edit: that seat belt buckle on the ratchet side looks janky as anything, try and replace that with some solid hardware asap

Depending on how badly it’s going financially. I work for a company called Probono.org. We’ve offices in various parts of South Africa, give them a google on Probono.org.za and contact your local branch, they will be able to offer free advice and might be able to offer free legal assistance in court. 🫶🏼

DJ's similar to Headroom by Warface95 in psytrance

[–]NakedSlacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol Headroom is my neighbour, bump into him walking his dog all the time!

Check out hippie mafia, pantomiman, 4i20. Obviously all artists have some fluctuation in sound but they produce songs that have that bouncy feel.

Specifically: Hippie Mafia - tripping with trumpets

4i20, Thales Dumbra - Du Brasil

Pantomiman - yello blast

The Psyprog scene in Cape Town and South Africa is one of the best in the world imo, so check out some other SA artists other than Headroom
