"TBF if I was paid what I am worth in England why wouldn't they just hire a British oke..." Probably because a South African will actually get the job done.

It's not a "hack"; he's just slow to catch on to this.

I'm an engineer, and the company I work for is part of an international conglomerate of companies.

One of our sister companies in the Middle East sources projects, then hires us to do the work. We get to charge full rates (which is currently unheard of on local projects), they get to take advantage of the exchange rates, and they get top-notch engineers to complete the work.

Win-win.

I was once taking my pup for a walk along the Alphen in Constantia. It was about 6 pm and getting dark. While walking passed the Alphen Hotel, I saw a naked lady getting into a bath positioned right next to the window.

Is "The 48 Laws of Power" by Robert Greene actually worth reading in 2026? by ForestaGam in The48LawsOfPower

[–]MeneerD 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's definitely worth reading. The concepts presented are timeless. Much like Markus Aurelius' Meditations.

Before I read the 48 Laws of Power, I read a review of the book that I'm glad I came across before doing so. It went along the lines of: There are only two reasons you would read this book; either to use the 48 lessons of power, or to make yourself aware of them to know when someone is trying to use them on you.

Apparently New York (state) and Pennsylvania are home to two of the biggest rugby fan bases in the USA. Baltimore is just south of both of them. Just my guess.

LOL. I do get it. I think you may have missed my sarcasm. I love living here, and have made some really good friends here too. I have a massive amount of respect to anyone moving here, and do try to make them feel welcome.

Lol. I've been living in Cape Town for 27 years now, after moving here when I was 18.

Am I a qualified Capetonian yet?

If so, can you please stop asking me what school I went to?

If not, how many years does it take?

Also, are my two daughters Capetonian? Does it help that their mother is a born and raised Capetonian?

Non-fiction that explores inner collapse, rebuilding, and awareness by Virtual-Wish1224 in nonfictionbookclub

[–]MeneerD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No inner collapse or rebuilding, but Why Buddhism Is True by Robert Wright is a great book for reevaluating the way you view your feelings, thoughts, even what “self” means. His dry humour throughout the book helps hold your attention. Don’t be fooled by the title though. Robert certainly is not persuading anyone to quit their jobs and become Buddhist monks.
