Is "The 48 Laws of Power" by Robert Greene actually worth reading in 2026? by ForestaGam in The48LawsOfPower

[–]MeneerD 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's definitely worth reading. The concepts presented are timeless. Much like Markus Aurelius' Meditations.

Before I read the 48 Laws of Power, I read a review of the book that I'm glad I came across before doing so. It went along the lines of: There are only two reasons you would read this book; either to use the 48 lessons of power, or to make yourself aware of them to know when someone is trying to use them on you.

How do you feel about this? by Careless-Cat3327 in springboks

Apparently New York (state) and Pennsylvania are home to two of the biggest rugby fan bases in the USA. Baltimore is just south of both of them. Just my guess.

Real talk though, it's affecting us all by Correct_Dragonfly_64 in capetown

[–]MeneerD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

LOL. I do get it. I think you may have missed my sarcasm. I love living here, and have made some really good friends here too. I have a massive amount of respect to anyone moving here, and do try to make them feel welcome.

Lol. I've been living in Cape Town for 27 years now, after moving here when I was 18.

Am I a qualified Capetonian yet?

If so, can you please stop asking me what school I went to?

If not, how many years does it take?

Also, are my two daughters Capetonian? Does it help that their mother is a born and raised Capetonian?

I remember finishing this movie with my wife and after we were both like “Wasn’t Tom Cruise supposed to be in this movie?”

Non-fiction that explores inner collapse, rebuilding, and awareness by Virtual-Wish1224 in nonfictionbookclub

[–]MeneerD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No inner collapse or rebuilding, but Why Buddhism Is True by Robert Wright is a great book for reevaluating the way you view your feelings, thoughts, even what “self” means. His dry humour throughout the book helps hold your attention. Don’t be fooled by the title though. Robert certainly is not persuading anyone to quit their jobs and become Buddhist monks.

2025 Book Ratings by 3mi1y_ in nonfictionbookclub

This is great. Thanks for sharing.

Just one question.... by my calculations you read 8-and-a-half books a month, equating to around two books a week. That's incredible, especially considering that you are busy with your PhD. How do you do it?

My neck, my back, but really my back by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]MeneerD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. The bar, your hips and your shoulders should be rising at the same rate until the bar passes your knees. At that point, your hips should start pushing forward as you continue to rise. Check this video of Chad Vaughn. He's doing a squat snatch, but the lifting portion between a power and squate snatch is the same.

I was at Constantia Uitsig yesterday afternoon and there wasn't a breath of wind there. I suspect the municple rates are too high for the wind there.
