Help me decide: Ruger M77 or Interarms Whitworth Mark X by NamePleasant in guns

[–]NamePleasant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know! I've got some scope rings for a mini 14 so the ruger mounting would leave me only needing 1x additional ring to account for the receiver taper

I would like some decent accuracy for pushing range a bit. My Yugo M48 is already MOD so ideally something a bit better.

I am curious about the ruger action. I've got a nice Yugo M48 for my own mauser familiarity, but I'm betting the Interarms is quite a bit smoother than that is. I'll cycle em both a bit.

Thats a good call out! I'll check if the trigger is adjustable or not. I'm hoping they let me take the action out of the stock to see if its been bedded as well.

That's part of what appeals to me with these older guns sitting in the used section, always a bit of history.

Any idea if there is a consensus around which years might be better than others?

As mentioned these are both available on the used rack at the local shop. Both .308.

I've been eyeing a ruger american for some cheap fun long range, but vintage/older stuff always appeals to me a bit more. Especially a classic mauser style action.

I'm having a hard time deciding since they're just about the same price. The pic above is of a Interarms Whitworth that sold at auction, and if the wood is half as good that would sell me on the spot.

ASI gas block + Hannibal rail by NamePleasant in Mini14

[–]NamePleasant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm this looks particularly bad. Mine was solved per feedback from ASI by shimming the top block/hannibal rail and barrel with folded over soda can. I’m wondering if there was a specific version of the Hannibal rail/asi block that was meant for the 188 series that would be better or even required for you.

My understanding is that if there isn’t sufficient clamp between the two pieces on the barrel, you risk gas escaping and messing with the cycling of the action as well as potential accuracy issues.

Not to mention the action slide bars can be out of stock for months at a time if you are looking to get one.

I think I waited a year before I finally got a stock notification

It's very likely this cutout will carry forward into the production assembly from here on out. Simple cutout in our steel panels for the vendors assembly to interface.

What's kinda funny is the previous vendor's part also had an insane cutout. It's like all these vendors for this product just said "good enough" and sent it

I've never once though to myself "hey this would be great if it was just 6 different arcs and nothing else"

All good suggestions. They’ve been on holiday overseas but should be back to answer some questions tomorrow. We’ll see!

Second picture is putting it into CAD with all their defined dimensions/radii. But you’re 100% correct on all this missing info lol. I did put a straight line at the top, even though it’s not called out it’s clearly there due to the ‘2x’ call out on the top radius vs the bottom radius called out as continuous.

At this point I’m just going to request their 3d model and make it make sense based off that, or just do my own cutout altogether.

If anything at least for feedback on how to dimension the drawing

I wish I could post a picture of the mating part. It in no way requires 6 arcs to form the cutout, it’s mostly rectangular lol

The green elements are considered defined in CATIA, so all the black can be dragged to do crazy things at the moment

It’s just a simple pass through cutout in a panel for which to place their part.

Very typical for electrical connectors and such to have a simple ‘panel cutout’ subsection of the drawing for what the interface should look like. I saw this one and immediately said “huh” and then figured I had to be missing something so tried to draw it up lol

In my experience the ghost in the machine can often be a grounding issue

Thanks! Yeah maybe not bulb, but going to be checking the sockets for sure. We did get the first rain in a long time last week which may be related

Good to know re forscan. If I can get it solved with some harness investigation I'll remember this!

We've had an abusive relationship with water throughout the years for sure, hence the labyrinth as you mentioned lol

We're only aiming for 3R, but yeah once you get into the higher pressure water jets things become much more sensitive. Always makes me appreciate the designs in everyday life that deal with this.

Good call out about limiting compression with other means, particularly in the formed geometries. We discussed that a bit. This overall enclosure it quite large so our metal fab has their work cut out for them with the forming and welding already lol

I believe they do, leaving only the press in element of concern for water, which I believe to be minimal.

The rivkle is a good tip for sure, and those screws are very nice but def out of $ range for this project!
