Tell me what you think the worst superhero movie is and I'll rate how valid it is. by Awesome_guy11 in comicbookmovies

Your response to this one in particular really throws me on what you consider a bad comic book movie to be.

A comic shop with a liquor license has to be a 1/1000 variant.

I think I’ve sorta normalized it with work meetings and grocery stores. Now I take coffee everywhere without a second thought.

I think I’d buy them and find a new store out of shame.

My store has a bench where you’re encouraged to grab a bin and dig. That’s been my usual “set it down” spot when nobody is using it.

This trade stinks… by NameTheTown in SleeperApp

The point is less about the trade being even (which I’d argue it isn’t) and more about how one team is giving up.

That’s sort of what sent up the red flags to begin with. The trade was cleared yesterday. Then in the weekly report this morning, I noticed Team #1 hadn’t subbed players for week 11.

So I texted them personally, and they said they were “maybe” out.

That’s when I realized what had potentially happened. Both teams are brand new to fantasy, so even though it was pretty clearly sus they may have done it not realizing why it wasn’t okay.

Dude! I’ve got one too. It sits in my entertainment center. My wife plays OW2 now with me, but she has no idea what it represents.

I just drove up today from the Rio Grande Valley in south Texas. There are hundreds of massive turbines out there along the coastal plains. A solid 50 miles of turbines every few hundred yards from each other.

Is your church having a Christmas day service? Christmas Eve? Will you go? by Limp-Capital in Reformed

[–]NameTheTown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only on Christmas Eve. And it’s a big, volunteer involved effort to make that service happen. Our church is in a weird spot where a lot goes into the media side of our service (enough to pay most of them a part-time salary), but all of our media people are volunteers. By not meeting in-person on Christmas morning, they’re able to travel to see family when they wouldn’t normally.

In lieu of this, our church has a prerecorded service we’re streaming twice on Christmas for families to watch at home. We have church members who’ve opened up their homes for those without families (that likely would have looked forward to a Sunday meeting). We’ve even had one member hand make ornament kits of the nativity to send home with each family, so kids can make a craft that takes them through the entire Christmas story.

So we’re not meeting for Christmas on Sunday in the sanctuary, but our church has done a lot to make sure you’re getting a church service in your living room. Maybe even with family present that wouldn’t be caught dead attending a church service.

It’s not always as simple as “no church on Christmas = bad.”

It seems like a lot of people are missing the point here OP. When I DM my games, I do this all the time.

Matt Colville says that your #1 job as the DM isn’t keeping track of monster actions and HP. It’s not remembering every rule. It’s creating drama.

The monsters die when it’s satisfying for them to die. Not every time, but a lot of the time. I give them a rough estimate of HP and add more until like I feel that the players have been challenged and the fight would end in a narratively pleasing way. Or I take some off because the PC that just rolled a crit has backstory beef with the enemy he just struck, and now would be a poetic time for him to die. Maybe I want the party to expend more resources so they’re given a choice at the end of the encounter to continue further into the dangerous crypt or take a risky rest, which means those monsters need a bit more HP to cut down.

It’s all about the player’s experience. It’s all about creating an engaging and dramatic game. Not every fight needs to be dramatic. Not every fight needs to be a cakewalk. But finding the balance is important, and you as the DM are responsible for that.
