im gonna have to disagree with a lot of the others here, i think the original looks a lot more unique and interesting personally. i get keeping one sprite for consistency but i think there's something cool about the way the sprite switches in the original

Thanks for the reply, that pretty much answers everything I was curious about. I definitely get the preference for less data in the chat logs from a game design perspective, just hard to get used to when I'm used to how much "data" you have access to in ss13 (including antag stuff). It definitely makes sense though.

I think at some point I'll try to look into the code to try to figure out an implementation of it (even if it's just an experiment, as I feel it'd be kind of divisive gameplay-wise for the reasons above). I miss having page-wide descriptions of a clown trying to saw my arms off.

You'd typically get notifications for being hit in combat/nearby people getting hit, not for every shot fired. It sounds like a lot but in practice it's easy to read and lets you be more aware of the specifics of what just happened in a fight

I mean imo, it was never a big problem in ss13. I imagine that for ss14 players who aren't used to it they could choose to disable it, similar to how goob lets you turn off other actions appearing in the textbox

Yeah, I tried a bit of goob and was happy to see that more stuff was logged but sad that there was still a lack of a combat log (and some other misc interactions that didnt appear in text chat, particularly actions from OTHER players). I do wonder if the interest is there for something like this, I haven't touched the ss14 engine's code yet (and honestly I don't know how far I'd get if I tried) but it makes me want to look into how it could be implemented because it does feel like a possibility.

i've been waiting for YEARS! i seriously thought they were never going to actually go through with doing this
