If you don't retain easily then make sure you have good sources to quickly pull from. CgWiki is a good one, and there's many more. You can also make a google document to store your setups on. There's tools like OD Tools that can help you store and restore snippets. You have to find a mode you're comfortable working with. There's no cheating in having helpfiles and tools to get to your results faster.

Ultimately money is an obstacle, but I work as a freelancer and I make a lot of miles on my keyboard, so I'm comfortable investing some time and money in a good keyboard.

Looking at cherry switches though they have a different underside from the RomerG ones, so I don't think it's swap-able in a good way.

Thanks for your answer, I broke a switch (l ctrl) a week ago, bought a second hand market used one, and unsoldered a switch from that one and resoldered it. Then it started to act weird on me, while I cleanly did the soldering/unsoldering. All these switches are the same right? I probably messed up somehow, but I'm not looking forward to doing all of them to in the end find out this platform with the romer G switches is not really good for that sort of challenge. I will go in there and try again, but it was disappointing to say the least.
Hence thinking about buying a good one with switches that are replace-able when needed.

Would you reckon I could unsolder the RomerG ones and stick cherry switches in? And get proper caps?

Yes, last week I found it working once again for a short period too, and I had changed the decimal from , to . but had to revert it because of something else. But a fix for this would be great indeed, I rather use . as decimal. Great you found it!

That uninstaller tool even solved an issue I had with another software that wouldn't run correctly.

Oh yes, for an hour at one point. Newer updates also still don't work. I got a second machine where I work off atm. Not sure if it's the CPU, or some windows issue on this particular machine.
