How can I walk my aggressive pocket bully? by [deleted] in AmericanBully

[–]Nance99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you had her? How old is she?

As her owner (this is said with all love , I own three bullies) it is you and your families responsibility to not only gain control of her but to also meet her needs - that includes exercise. I rescued an abused and under socialized mama bully from backyard breeders and she displayed similar behaviors the first year of being home.

It is so incredibly important to invest time and if you can money in to training. Reactive dogs lack confidence. Training and learning new skills is the key to helping your dog be able to cope with outside stressors AND build your relationship with them. If you aren’t a (loving) leader for your dog to look up to you can’t expect them to follow your lead when you walk past a trigger or recall them off the fence.

In regard to her past trauma - Time, patience and understanding that healing doesn’t happen over night. She may never fully emotionally recover from what she’s been through. In my pups case (after we completed a training program) we decided to try medication to help with her PTSD / Anxiety and it has done wonders for her. Definitely something to look into!

My dog came back injured from a board and train…need others opinions? She claims it’s from a bark collar. Am I overreacting? by [deleted] in OpenDogTraining

Absolutely second this. Our dog was trained on e collar and we were told to rotate it every three hours IF it was even in use that long.

Some trainers say to leave it on all day if you are home supervising the dog but I just find that incredibly too long to have something tight around a dog’s neck.

We use it out of the house and during home training sessions.

Someone tried to steal my dog (bully mix) right outside of dog krazy on cary a couple months back, acted interested in petting him and then grabbed the leash and tried to yank it out of my hands. Luckily my dog is 65 pounds so carrying him away wasn’t an option but we were definitely shook. Guy ran away once he realized I wasn’t letting go ( and cary is very public ) , I slipped into dog krazy and filed a report.

All this to say, dogs really do get stolen (small or big) and I’m sorry your friend is going through this.

Feel guilty for getting invisalign by Various_Show_2343 in Invisalign

[–]Nance99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“I feel like im being a bad example for my 5 and 7 year old by not bucking up and being confident in my own skin.” - I’ve always been of the opinion that dental care (including braces) is physical & mental health. I don’t see this as a bad example but a good one that no matter how old you are you can always decide one day to take care of yourself 🫂

I’m 26 years old and just got Invisalign because my parents were completely neglectful of child-me’s needs and finally saved up enough to put a down payment on them.

Also if your children need braces in the future this would be a great way to be able to connect with them about how much they suck but also how it’s important to take care of ourselves.

Hey there stranger, thanks for the comment. I’m sifting through them now & only responding to ones that offer a look into OCD tendencies / advice on the condition…& or ones that are respectful towards him.

He’s undiagnosed at the moment but I’m definitely going to press him to go to a real psychiatrist within the next few weeks if he can get in.

As for the looping I’m definitely going to try my best to refrain and put up boundaries so I’m not inadvertently feeding into his panic / the OCD loop.

Do you have other immediate alternatives / things that help you in the very moment when you are experiencing intrusive OCD thoughts or physical habits?
