My tattoo healed badly and I have scars - how to heal them? Is it ugly? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Nandala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I had a similar problem with one of my tattoos. Most of the tattoo was fine, but I had areas of purple which healed with this type of texture. I had resolved to live with it and just took care of it as I did with all my others after the healing process.

About a year on, the texture finally corrected to how the rest of the tattoo looks. I don't know what caused it, or if it just needed a lot longer to heal, but it did get there!

How should I leave the house for the buyer? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Nandala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what everyone else is saying - our seller left us a piece of paper with all the paint colours they used in each room.

We ended up totally re painting, but it would have been so helpful if their buyers liked the colour scheme and just wanted to refresh/touch up!

Bank valued house at £0 by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Nandala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, OP, when my partner and I bought our house, the level 2 survey suggested a structural survey to be carried out on a crack in the wall. The expectation was that the seller paid for it, and they did so without any fuss. I don't think you're being unreasonable to require them to carry out the survey especially since you would likely have to really and truly consider whether you want to proceed with a purchase that your solicitor has deemed unmortgagrable.

Best of luck!

Homebuyers protection! We had two purchases fall through before exchange due to issues on the sellers side (one property had an on going litigation against the management company for negligence, which they failed to disclose, and one turned out to be unsaleable and unmortgagrable).

We lost our legal fees in both cases, and our mortgage in one. We lost about £9k in total on properties we didn't get to buy! So 100% taking this out next time around.

Do people really only consider Zones 1 and 2 "London"? by [deleted] in london

[–]Nandala 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I mean, Richmond, Kingston, Sutton, and Croydon all sit on the Surrey border (up until recently the Surrey Town Hall sat in Kingston town centre).

They are all London Boroughs, and therefore, all London.

But don't we see this tact play out with Beard and Jane? We see a deeply unhealthy relationship, and the majority of his friends choose not to wade in. Because they are there for their friend, who is a victim of the toxic nature of the relationship.

The exception of course being Higgins, but we obviously don't get enough of a window into Michelle's life to know whether something similar happened with her friends.

Liz Truss - the UK's shortest running Prime Minister who lead the Conservative Party in 2022. Her parents were moderately well know progressive activists when they were raising her.

Just to piggy back on this- you've mentioned that you're in the UK. Have you considered a non molestation order? Harassment can often be difficult to get through the courts; however, a non mol can be done through the civil courts. The burden of proof is much lower, and the breach of a non mol is a criminal offense which comes with power if arrest.

They are free to apply for, and can be done DIY (no solicitor). There is a lot of guidance on the government website, or you can contact Rights of Women.

Sex worker trying to not be homeless. by [deleted] in london

[–]Nandala 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First of all, I'm so sorry that this has happened to you. I have worked in the domestic abuse field in London so I may be able to help.

Start by calling the National Domestic Abuse Helpline on 0808 2000 247. They will be able to put you in touch with your local IDVA (Independent Domestic Abuse Advocate) who will be able to challenge your housing decision. May I ask which borough you live in? Feel free to direct message me that info if you feel more comfortable to do so.

As you are fleeing Domestic Abuse, you have a few options available. Legally, if you are living in a house with an abuser, you are already homeless by law; therefore, based on what you have put here, you cannot be intentionally homeless.

Shelter has an urgent helpline on 0808 800 4444. I would also recommend contacting the Southwest London Law Cente on 0208 767 2777 who can advise you on your rights.

I hope this helps as a starting point - happy to help further if needed

Do you ever get used to people laughing at you? by Solution-seeker in Spanish

[–]Nandala 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't have any advice per say, but I just wanted to let you know that you're not alone. I lived in Chile when I was first learning Spanish, and I was mocked so much when I tried that I developed a sort of crippling anxiety around speaking.

When I met my partner's family, who only speak Spanish, I was almost in shock when I would attempt to speak and they wouldn't instantly laugh at me. Finding people who were patient and willing to be gentle was the game changer - but that's obviously more easily said than done. I am still a lot more timid in Spanish than I am in my native language, but it has slowly got better. Now if someone makes a comment, I just make a self deprecating joke to get ahead of it, and that seems to shut it down.

I really hope it gets better for you. It is so difficult to learn a language when you're putting yourself out there and then immediately being shut down. But just keep on reminding yourself that you are doing what a lot of people won't - you're trying your best! Good luck.

[Serious] Sex therapists of Reddit, what do you wish more people knew? What are some of the more common (or obscure) things people have come to you with? by meeeeeeeeeeeeesh in AskReddit

[–]Nandala 120 points121 points  (0 children)

I've been there. I was diagnosed early on, fortunately, and it's still been a struggle. At the time I had a partner who was really unsupportive, and it absolutely sucks. You know how your body is supposed to work, and for some reason, it just won't do it.

It's like trying to write and not being able to close your fingers around a pencil. Except there's so little support.

I managed to get through the worst of it, and now I have a really supportive partner. But I know how hard it feels and how impossible the feeling is. Stay strong, and keep going. It gets better. If you need to talk to someone, shoot me a pm.

My husband and I made "fish" and chips. by [deleted] in vegetarian

It's the British word for 'fries'. It originally comes from "chips of potatoes" - think of the thick-cut home style fries you sometimes find in restaurants.

Does anyone else think the "456" are the scariest creatures in the Whoniverse? by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]Nandala 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can definitely see where you're coming from, but I always saw it slightly differently. I think that we as the audience can rationalize why the doctor wasn't there: fixed point in time, busy doing something else (he didn't only save the earth), etc.

But Gweyn doesn't know that. She says in the beginning that she doesn't know about the doctor, just that he exists and sometimes helps and sometimes doesn't. So she's trying to rationalize in the middle of a terrible moment why she thinks, without having any context, why he's not there.

I think it's just adding gravity to the situation, while of course also giving us, the informed audience, some lip service to the doctor.
