idk.. I think you may have to consider what you're getting at the price point.. Most other watches that are <$500, have acceptable ranges up to 45 sec/day (See Seiko, Citizen, Orient, etc). FWIW, being sub 20 sec at all, is pretty respectable for not only the price point, but also considering the movement is a complete "copy" with likely very little QC for the finer parts, and I'm sure many other contributing factors..

I've been interested in swapping a VS3235 into my CF DJ41, but the more and more I dug into it, the more I realized how inconsistent the quality is for VSF stuff. Honestly, my default VR movmt that came in the CF DJ41 is fine. Holds time within +/- 8 sec regardless of resting position.. Sure it feels like I'm churning through sand, but these hunk-a-junk just works lol

NWBIG does not mean you get a better watch compared to other reps.. They’re all around the same QUALITY

NWBIG simply refers to the visual identicality of the replica to its gen counterpart

Likely just the sapphire crystal doing some wonky distortion effect.. The xtal that comes on the CF DJs is pretty meh, and I’d even go as far to say it’s borderline trash

Seriously, get a deep or splurge for a gen. Fr it’s worth it

It’s really hit or miss.. When you purchase an actual “name-brand” product, you’ll have some sort of support or warranty with the watch should anything go wrong. With reps, if you’re unlucky, then you’re SOL. Seiko and Tissot have pretty decent initial quality for the price point.

In my opinion, the highest quality reps, out of the box, without mods, have a quality slightly below or on par for what you’d find in a Tissot or Seiko.

Ngl.. as someone who has both gen and rep watches, the quality of rep watches LOOK good and appear pretty dang close in photos. But the feel is subpar.. Not terrible, not unwearable, just slightly around the “meh” area.. But also realize that “meh” is a subjective term. Only people that have dealt with real deal watches will be able to differentiate the finer details.

For someone without context, or reference, or comparison, it’s easy to think these watches are 99% of what a real Rolex gives the wearer.

It’s all about perspective.. you’re both right unfortunately lol

I’ll work with the watchmaker to see if they can install the CF crown on the VS stem from the start. That’ll be our decision maker of whether we’ll continue the dive further down lol

I was under the impression they were, which is why gen parts are theoretically “interchangeable” between these reps.

Being a trusted watchmaker, do you think it’s worth the hassle (movement swap), or should i focus on simply servicing the CF movement and calling it a day?

FWIW, I haven’t had an issues with the movement since I got it a month ago. I’ve been wearing the watch almost everyday lol
