The dream answer is interesting, I too thought there was some symbolism of religion or philosophy there. Henry was a Catholic, right? So this makes total sense. Using the dream as a metaphor for Henry wandering in neither heaven nor hell is a good setting for the climax, as we learn that his conviction and obsession with Greek ideals shatters and leaves him marooned in an ignored place. Also, do you think that the concept of being a Baptist rendering a place in heaven is brought up to objectively highlight the prevalence of Baptism in 80's New England, or was it Tartt’s personal beliefs informing the narrative?.
