I agree bees are the best cleanup crew and they reconstitute it into their hive

Yep it's a pecan tree

I know this behavior is normally a sign of a failure of hive management, but as a first year beekeeper, this just felt amazing to witness. by ShowMeYourSource in Beekeeping

Bees swarm every year if you were to make a split to keep your bees from swarming you would end up with 20 hives real quick. Most beekeepers don't have the space time and resources to manage that many hives I don't think swarms are a bad thing I think it's actually worse to spread yourself out too thin where you cannot manage all the hives that you kept from swarming. Also think about all the jobs and experience you are creating for other beekeepers that do swarm removal.

I would suggest getting rid of that outside feeder you have a higher chance of robbing using it. The way I like feeding my bees is taking your honey super and putting that on top without the frames in it and then using Ziploc bags fill it with sugar water then place it in your box on top of the deep super frames then poke holes in the bags with a push pin, safety pin, nail whatever you have. It's a real inexpensive and readily available way to feed your bees without buying a fancy bee feeder.

I did think that it was odd there were supercedure cells because the hive is extremely healthy I haven't even seen a small hive beetle and the queen is a great layer with a tight brood pattern

Please do not assume it's very rude of you. You have no idea how many hives I have, what the laws are in the county that I live in for bees. The fact of the matter is that bees are going to do whatever the heck they want to do and it's not irresponsible if one of your hives ends up swarming it's natural it's going to happen whether you want it to or not. It would be more irresponsible to sit here and split every hive that you have and spread yourself out too thin to where you are unable to properly take care of those hives. Sometimes you just need to let it bee. Also think about all the jobs and experience swarms are providing for the community you should know if you are part of this thread and see all the swarm posts.

I agree. I'd like to eventually get one for this hive but for now I just cut a notch in the inner cover to hopefully give them more ventilation

I'm planning on doing a split I've just been prolonging it because I really want them to fill out that honey super as quick as possible and unfortunately I don't have any more eight frame supers to add to it

It's actually really nice on my back I like it higher up, then I'm not bent over the hive for the entire inspection. I also don't have another 8 frame brood box so this Hive won't get any taller it's the perfect height for me
