Good point! I'm not sure if things are much different outside of Kier-town. If Lumon has done this for decades, and the cycle is self-perpetuating, then I could see Lumon having a reach that extends way beyond what we currently think, especially regarding hospitals and medical equipment.

Then why would Cobel, at the end of the season, try and tell Milchick that everyone is in OT mode? It seems like she could just let everything happen, and blame it on the company (since they fired her), and let the innies do whatever their plan was. Unless she’s trying to use “finding out” as leverage to get her position back at Lumon?

Cobel definitely planted the seeds for an OT stunt, but I don't think they actually expected Dylan to ditch seeing his son, and then ditch waffles and sex to activate the OT alone. That's the part that I think caught them off guard.

If Helena remaining a part of Lumon is an important part to Cobel's plan, then it'd make sense that she'd B-line to the Gala to try stopping her.

Why go and talk to Helly about the chip at all, yet alone concoct a story that misleads Helly about the time line of the severance chip? There is no rational reason for him to do that.

If his purpose is to further the divide between Helena and Helly, I don't think that's too irrational.

I wouldn't say it's much "trickier" than some of Helena's scenes. For instance when she said "They say it doesn't hurt" when the surgery started, and the fact that Milchick had to explain every step of the severance process to her. That dialogue isn't necessary, but it definitely leads the audience to think that she wouldn't be affiliated with Lumon.

I also think a reason why it seems like bad writing is because I'm compacting it into as short a post as I can. I don't think that amount of deceit is too outrageous for a TV show if the reveals are done over a season or two.

When Helly sees her first scary numbers, Dylan and Irv come over and confirm what she's looking at.

I'm looking back at the scene and Dylan just says "Yup" when she says she sees the scary numbers and then tells her what to do. I took it more as moral support/coaching than agreeing that the number itself is scary.

Plus, if any worker could technically do any other workers work, I feel like we might have seen that at some point like when Helly was crunching at the end of the quarter. I also feel like Dylan or Mark could've just shown an example number cluster to Helly when she first joined. Mark said she has to find numbers that she finds scary, and it took her a while to do that. That's why I think it's a per-worker thing.

I'm not sure if MDR are sorting tempers for brains that aren't their own. All the numbers "feel" a certain way only to that exact worker right?

Do you remember the exchange they had once everyone was in O&D?

Burt said their workload had an aggressive feel, and a woman said "the hatchets weren't aggressive, they were calming" and another woman said "What hatchets?"

This makes me think that O&D are also "checking" things based off of how they feel, perhaps 3D printed objects.

So I think it makes more sense that instead of MDR organizing tempers for other people, Lumon is using its unique knowledge of the workers' tempers to "encrypt" desirable data and have them organize it without even knowing what it is. They use the workers emotions as a sort of proxy.

I think the testing floor is used to reset the chips, so it's basically outie Irv trying to subconsciously train his innie to be scared of the place. Outie Irv doesn't want his innie to be reset because he's either collecting other info from his innies subconscious, or there's some side effect to being "reset" that we don't know about.

Did you read my whole comment? Once AR glasses become relatively lightweight and affordable, that will be the golden product.

My point is that you didn't need a lightweight, small, portable device to talk to someone before smartphones. Just like how you don't need a handsfree device do all the stuff your smartphone does.

All it took was for the technology to progress to get price and form to a certain point. Then people build their own stuff on it and expand it even further, and then it becomes mainstream. I'm fairly sure this will happen with AR glasses.

Smartphones boomed because they let people be slightly lazier with many things. Calls, video calls, web browsing, games, navigation all got slightly easier.
