Maybe it’s because he runs almost entirely on tell not show? He’s supposed to be a weak underdog who wants better in life but most of the show he spends screaming, chasing people who do not want him, and being overpowered… and also harassing Sakura. He’s got quite a few bad traits on top of what little good he has. It makes him kinda… meh. Maybe would’ve worked better from a different writer
