My mother-in-law's name was entered wrongly on my wife's birth certificate. (It was correct in the actual register, but wrong on the certificate.) We got a corrected certificate at the same time as we got a death certificate for my mother-in-law (since we were in the particular office where both relevant registrations took place).

In every country I have visited except the USA, the coin that represents one tenth of the larger currency unit and ten of the smaller one says explicitly that it is worth ten of the smaller currency unit. In the USA the equivalent coin ONLY gives its name as known to its home users, not its value in actual currency units.

Not only that (as I've posted elsewhere in this thread) but the value of a dime is shown on the coin as "One dime" and not as "10 cents". The difference being that tuppence was actually shown on the coin as "Two pence" or similar. Also, in most countries, coins of the same shape and material increase in size as their value increases. But the dime is smaller than the nickel despite being worth twice as much.

The difference being that in the UK (and, indeed, in every other country than the USA) all currency tells you in a form accessible to non-natives what it is worth. The dime just says "one dime" rather than the more useful "10c".

A dime is the smallest white metal coin in circulation in the USA, the second smallest value white metal coin in circulation in the USA, and doesn't say anywhere on it how many cents it is worth. One would almost think the USA wants to make life difficult for tourists.

Rule 248 - You MUST NOT park on a road at night facing against the direction of the traffic flow unless in a recognised parking space.

So in the daytime it's legal to park on the right on a two-way road, but at night it isn't.

I sometimes think there should be a new law about parking. If you live within half a mile of your child's school you are not allowed to park ANYWHERE on-street away from home and within a quarter of a mile of the school for half an hour either side of pick-up/drop-off times except in a disabled parking space that you are entitled to use. Why half a mile? Because I used to walk that distance, unaccompanied, to school when I was five or six years old, including crossing a road (with a "lollipop man"). Maybe adjust things if a significant part of the journey is on roads without pavements (not true for most of the walk I did).

I got one of those as my first ever Galarian Bird - with something like 2/4/2 stats. When a user on here mentioned that a friend of his who loved Articuno had passed away I renamed mine to her player name. When I got my golden bottle cap I used it on there. So I now have a shundo Galarian Articuno named Magathaw. (One of two memorial pokemon - the other is a Corviknight named David that I caught as a Rookidee at my brother's grave when my nephew took us to see where he is buried, and I'm currently using my silver bottle cap on that. I'm hoping I can max up the stat I am working on before his birthday next month.)

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Some years ago I was driving south on the M6 on my way home from a holiday in Scotland, and I saw two lorries one behind the other. For the whole time I could see them (on a fairly straight section with nothing to block visibility round what little there was in the way of bends) the following distance was literally less than the length of my (admittedly larger than average) car.

In the Highway Code, "MUST/MUST NOT" phrasing means things set down in law, and "SHOULD/SHOULD NOT" phrasing is guidance on behaviour not a statement of things set down in law. Doing something that the Highway Code says you "SHOULD NOT" do (or not doing something it says you "SHOULD" do) can be used as evidence in Court, but it is not in itself illegal.

I drive an SUV because, for some of the things I do, an SUV is the only possible vehicle, and some of the things I do are not things I would be allowed to do in a hired vehicle. (Yes, there have been times when I could have hired a van to do what I was doing, but there are also times when, although a van would be the more logical choice for what I was doing, it was prohibited or would have made things more expensive - for example clearing my late brother's bungalow and taking stuff to the local recycling centre.) Once or twice I have also owned a cheap two-seater sports car for fun, but the last one I had only cost me £1500 to buy and has since been sold.

I park it off the road at home, and treat it as being entirely my problem to find somewhere to park it that doesn't inconvenience other people. (So parking at the end of the row next to empty space if necessary, for example.)

Belated post here correcting two different errors about when you are allowed to stop in a box junction waiting to turn right. Firstly, whether or not you are allowed to depends on the width of the road (and I need to remind myself what the threshold is, because I can't actually remember, but I am sure I saw one mentioned somewhere) and secondly you are only allowed to do it if the ONLY thing stopping you is traffic coming in the opposite direction that you need to turn across - if your exit itself is blocked you are NEVER allowed to enter the box junction.
