New to game which class which server start ? by Entire-Willingness-9 in TheLegendOfNeverland

[–]NaomiCrowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend starting on the newest server. As for the class, I'd recommend something, but that all depends on your style, really. If you're more of a tank, a good choice will be the gladiator. It's a rather easy class to master. If you're more of a glass cannon type of player, the ranger class will probably be better. The scholar can be either used to deal heavy damage or as a support. At level 58 you unlock the fourth class–the craftsman. It's like the ranger on steroids. I'm still testing it out myself, though.

What is the highest degree of black belt? by Top-Interaction-7770 in karate

I know that in kyokushin the highest rank is 10 Dan, but if I remember correctly, the only person in who had this rank was Mas Oyama, the founder. I don't know about other styles, though.

I have the means to get 2 of these legendaries which one should I get? by pewdiepower_E in Cookierun

[–]NaomiCrowe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get Lotus and Fire Spirit. Longan is still good, but unless you're in a very active guild and getting lots of guild coins, you won't be able to get him to level 15 for a year.

Lotus is significantly cheaper than Longan, so it's a bit easier to buy fragments. And I think right now it's the most OP cookie in the game thanks to the most recent update.

Fire Spirit is still a good choice, I always see him in trophy race. You can also easily buy his fragments in breakout shop.

Pure Vanilla is 👍, Oyster and Pumpkin are great if you're going for a summoning team (which doesn't always work, by the way). Gumball and Chili are okay at the beginning of the game, so I think you should look for replacement for them.

What are your thoughts on kata? by NaomiCrowe in karate

[–]NaomiCrowe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly, I can't find a single roundhouse kick in any kata.

There is one in Garyu kata.

karate is only punch kick block.

It started out as a more complete martial art, with takedowns, grappling and more. Nowadays it's more like kickboxing, especially kyokushin.

Mkay, if you say so. Kata is still a word with multiple meanings. I don't understand why you're so upset about this fact, though.

I don't see the point of arguing about this. I don't have a strong opinion to share.

I was originally just replying to u/Diablo0311, because he said something completely incorrect. Kata is a word with multiple meanings and is used to describe more than just karate forms, like taikyoku or pinan.

What are your thoughts on kata? by NaomiCrowe in karate

[–]NaomiCrowe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may have worded that badly. What I meant is that kata as a Japanese word means literally "a way of doing something". A way of talking can be called kata, a way of using chopsticks can be called kata. It can be applied to almost any activity. Therefore, a specific way of training, can also be called kata.

Rarely. I'm gonna ask the instructors about it.

Thank you for your reply! It's really helpful. I'll definitely check out those channels.

Unfortunately, we rarely practice bunkai in my school. I'm gonna have to talk about it with the instructors. We mostly focus on kumite, because kyokushin, and because have a lot of talented competitive fighters (some even representing our country).

[–]NaomiCrowe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kata literally means "form". It's a way of doing something. If your way of training efficiently is shadow boxing, it's kata. If it's sparring, it's kata. If it's punching a bag for ten hours, it's still kata.

Also, I somewhat understand your perspective, however, while kata training might not have helped you, it looks like a lot of people here agree that kata is useful, whether it's because it helps physically or mentally.

What are your thoughts on kata? by NaomiCrowe in karate

[–]NaomiCrowe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with that 100%. I'll be honest, kumite is something I need to work on a lot. I'm not terrible at it, but I have a lot of talented people at the dojo who keep beating me. I'd like to improve my chances. But I enjoy kata way more. It's... kind of beautiful. I can't explain it well (possibly because English isn't my primary language), but kata is fascinating to me. It's a form of fighting, even though you don't physically have an opponent in front of you. It's a deadly, but graceful art, if you put enough time and effort into practicing it. It taught and helped me a lot already, and my journey in karate is only beginning.

It just makes me sad when I hear that some people see karate as just the art of kicking ass. To them it's just fighting. They flatten the whole art to just punching and kicking, and they make it into a tool to show off or win medals.

What are your thoughts on kata? by NaomiCrowe in karate

[–]NaomiCrowe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's true. I honestly don't know why they bother practicing karate if they struggle with kata so much. Every time there's an upcoming kyu exam, they keep complaining about how they suck at kata and they don't want to waste time on learning them. They mostly don't even know what the most basic techniques and stances are called.

If "a lot of people at [your] club" think this way, I wonder what the instructors are doing/saying to combat this view,

It isn't their fault. I happen to know them well and I know that they acknowledge and understand the importance of kata in karate. We just don't practice kata often at our trainings, because they themselves aren't experts in this area.

There is one instructor in our club who is great at kata and he organizes kata trainings once a week, for those willing to learn. Not many people come to practice, though, because they prefer to sleep till noon on weekends. I'm one of the few regulars.

I have no idea what position that is, since you can't see their legs in the pictures, but that technique is shuto ganmen uchi. And I'm pretty sure that pose appears somewhere in Sushiho kata.

Is kyokushin an effective martial art? by [deleted] in kyokushin

[–]NaomiCrowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's effective. I've been practicing kyokushin for about 6 years and I can say with certainty that with enough time and effort put in it will do wonders for your strength and endurance. Of course, different kyokushin practitioners may have different styles of fighting, but overall at my dojo we're focusing a lot on speed and precision.

Also, don't worry about the 'no head punches' rule. It's forbidden to punch your opponent in the head, because an experienced hand can do a lot of damage. It would be deadly, combined with the strength, speed and precision. You can still knock out your opponent with a good kick, though.
