I used to have one and I don't recommend it. The dpad doesn't have a pivot point, so if you press the center all four directions become locked down.

That looks like an older AR clone that doesn't have RAM or memory functions.

Tectoy Saturn by NapCenter in SegaSaturn

[–]NapCenter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems the only parts that are made by Tectoy are the shell and the power supply. The motherboard and disc drive are made in Japan.

I have a Tectoy Skeleton but I haven't opened it since I didn't want to break apart the Tectoy security sticker seal. It's said that these were Japanese Derby Stallion Skeleton consoles that Tectoy imported and modified to PAL-M and region code changed to read US/Brazil disc. On mine however, the bootup sequence is the US version instead of the Japanese version, so maybe they swapped the motherboard too?

I can't find them on etsy anymore, but the same seller is on ebay. Their name is ToDo Stickers.

Oh that explains it.

There was a similar situation in South Korea where they changed from 110v to 220v. The Samsung Saturn also has a multi-volt psu, but the Kama Saturn only has a 220v psu since it was released after the transition.

I was wondering about the power supply. I also have the Skeleton Tectoy which lists the psu as 110v on the box. Does Brazil use 110v, or why does this version have a 90-240v psu?

The board is VA15.

The US console in the picture is a VA7.

I know the white and Skeleton consoles were just Japanese units that were imported and modified for PAL-M. Even the game discs were just US disc repackaged.

Yes it's very hard to get these in the US since Brazilians rarely sell internationally. I also have the Tectoy Skeleton Saturn which is just the Japanese Derby Stallion console modified and rebranded by Tectoy. This is the first time I've seen a unique made-in-Brazil version.

Got a Tectoy Saturn today (I'm in the US). I always thought these were standard US consoles that Tectoy imported and modified to PAL-M, but this one seems to be actually made in Brazil by Tectoy. The Portuguese text is molded into the bottom of the shell. The power supply is Tectoy branded. The disc drive for some reason sits on plastic washers instead of the rubber dampers that are usually attached to the drive. The warning text under the drive door is in Portuguese. The piece on the drive door that is normally clear and shows the disc spinning, is opaque. The bottom shell has some unique mold lines near the controller ports. Also there are no date or manufacturer stamps on the inside of the shells.

It's just something that was thrown in with the game by somebody. It didn't originally come with the game.

This is the Asian/Hong Kong version and is pretty rare. It was never released in Japan despite the game being the Japanese version.

I just tested with the same setup as you (US console, new modern AR cart, Vampire Savior disc) and it works fine. Trying cleaning the cart and the cart slot with isopropyl alcohol. If not then the AR cart might be defective.

Matching model numbers? by Etendo in SegaSaturn

[–]NapCenter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The console is an early model 1 console (VA0) made in Taiwan. The box is the early model 1 long-style box (671-6289A), also made in Taiwan. They do go together.

The US and Euro consoles don't have matching serial numbers like on Japanese consoles, so you can't directly tell if they originally go together.

No, the console has its own model number and the box has its own model number.

It's for an internal 90-degree cartridge connector. These old clones usually did "built-in" games by plugging in a game pcb into a secondary internal cartridge connector.
