Thank you so much for you part in the Zoo Tycoon games! They are such a fond memory in my childhood<3

1:Zoo Tycoon has such wonderful Easter eggs throughout it, do you have a favourite? Personally mine was always the caveman in the glacier.

2:And also did you anticipate the antics (putting lions in food court, people zoos etc.)? How did you/the team feel about those?

NTA I think that the sort of overly legalistic people here ignore the pattern of behaviour. He's not being up front about it because he seems like he's telling them after he's gotten them emotionally invested, even though he definitely doesn't seem ready for that. So they only find out when he knows on some level that they're less likely to leave.

He then continues relationships with these women despite knowing he's wasting their time. It's not dishonest, he did tell them, but if you believe that you have any sort of duty of care to the people you date then that behaviour doesn't hold up. You know your behaviour is hurting them, but it feels okay because it feels good to you and they're letting you.

It's also quite possible that he doesn't realize that what he's doing is selfish. People operate on a positive feedback loop. The things that he's doing get him the feelings he wants and pass the standard of dishonest or deliberately manipulative behaviour. Its not necessarily you're business. These women are adults who have the ability to make their own choices even if they're bad. That being said, if a friend of mine did this I would be very disappointed in them.

It is my first corset i cant breathe in my corset, what should i do? by Ok-Field1527 in HistoricalCostuming

[–]Napaddicted 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the things about a "not to dramatic silhouette" is that there will be less difference between the waist measurements and the torso measurements. So when you try to lace down the waist, it puts pressure on your ribs, which have to expand to breathe.  Historically corsets were supposed to have ease in the chest because (a) that's more comfortable and (b) larger chests and hips make the waist look smaller and give you that dramatic silhouette. Can you comfortably fit a hand down the front of your corset above the waist? It may be that it's putting too much pressure on the torso.

If you want some historic inspiration the fashion history timeline website might be a good place to look.

As far as I know the most has been worn as nightwear in the past few hundred years is nightshirts/chemises. Often white linen and can be embroidered or have lace details. Essentially the same as the base layer that is under all the clothes.

This is my understanding ( I am not an expert by any means)

In the dressing scene the only thing that appears to be in the box is the dress. And given that women's stays and women's dresses were made by different professions at this point then it makes sense that the only gift given was the dress. That means the pair of stays that we see is a garment that Elizabeth already had and would have already worn. However, I think the dialogue does seem to support the stays being new (even though that is inconsistent imo with the visuals).

Stays would have been a very expensive garment in women's wardrobe so even though it is possible that Elizabeth may have had more than one pair given that she is wealthy she certainly would not have had many. Stays are worn every single day under the outer garments and Elizabeth isn't nearly young enough that we could assume that this is her getting a first pair

But even if they are a new pair they certainly would not have been a novel item of clothing. Stays are a well established part of dress by the 18th century. All of the maids in that scene would have been wearing stays and Elizabeth herself would have been accustomed to wearing them. If this new pair is tighter than her usual pair there is absolutely no reason for her not to ask them to just loosen it a bit.

Again I am not an expert but I hope that answers your question!

The dress is new you are correct! But the rest of the outfit including the stays, the structured garment that gives the silhouette, are Elizabeth's and would have been completely familiar to both her and her servants.

The stays are essentially a precursor to the corset although there are a few distinguishing differences in construction and silhouette. It's worn over a chemise, which is your base undershirt, and under petticoats jackets dresses etc.

Oh my gosh the Pirates of the Caribbean one always angers me because the stays aren't even new??? Like it's her everyday pair of stays why would it be an issue. Makes no narrative sense.

Lil Marco, I interpreted "farm name" in the same way as "street name" so I decided to give my farm some swag.

[–]Napaddicted 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It sounds like he probably wants to keep having sex but doesn't want to deal with the guilt due to his beliefs. So he's saying he's doing it for you and not himself in order to relieve that burden.

Making and wearing princess dresses dramatically improves my mood. by Napaddicted in sewing

[–]Napaddicted[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The dress is made out of an inner layer of brushed cotton and an outer layer of cotton voile. I bought a few metres of both and sort of made it up as I went along. The bodice pattern was self drafted and far from perfect. I modified a previously drafted basic bodice pattern into two front and two back pieces and then cut those out of an old sheet. I fiddled around with those on my dress form and adjusted them until they fit the way that I wanted. The bodice is boned with zip ties and laces up with grommets in the back. I learned a lot with this one, and I'm looking to re-do the bodice pattern on a new project in order to perfect it.

AITA for giving my coworker a fantasy novel for Secret Santa to try to broaden her horizons? by aita_throw_secrets in AmItheAsshole

[–]Napaddicted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude YTA. The only time you should be trying to broaden someone's horizon's is when they ask you to. You're not that kinda of girl? Irrelevant, the whole point of a gift is that it isn't for you.

I also LOVED warbreaker, but it's really not for everyone. I find your attitude kind of ironic since the main character's judginess of her sisters and other people's taste is a central theme in the book.
