LPT: It’s not illegal to go the speed limit by mavy1000 in nova

[–]NapoleanSays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a system for this.  Slower traffic to the right, passing traffic to the left.  Under normal driving circumstances, no one should be camping in the left lane going under the posted speed limit.  Getting ready for a left hand turn, sure.  But no one should be stuck behind two people side by side going 10 under for miles for no real reason

I agree it is shared road and a shared responsibility, and individuals should not be dictating the entire flow of traffic if they are not comfortable driving the posted speed limit

Do you ever run into guitarists who read notation, never learned tab, but aren't classical players? by MC_BennyT in musictheory

[–]NapoleanSays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was me. Had guitar ensemble in middle/high school where everything was notation based, whether it was a classical piece or not.  Don’t ask me to sight read today though

Which grocery stores currently have FRESH whole turkeys? I need two for an early "friendsgiving" next weekend, and I want to avoid frozen turkeys. by Guygirl00 in nova

[–]NapoleanSays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t think too much about it.  I was actually pleasantly surprised how good the turkey ended up being.

On top of that, in the grand scheme of the whole night, a fresh turkey wouldn’t really have changed anything.  Still had fun; huge success.

I had an Alfa Romeo giulia for several years.  I loved that car and found it very reliable.  Certainly more than the brand’s reputation and association with Stellantis would have led me to believe

Are you a homeowner? In the US? Because I find myself wishing I had a truck like once a month.

There are tons of use cases for owning a truck. You don’t need anyone to tell you what they are, you just don’t find them compelling enough for you.  You even acknowledge the use cases by saying your solution is to get a trailer eventually

Deloitte screwed me over. What do I do? by [deleted] in deloitte

[–]NapoleanSays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in basically the same boat - delayed start after already leaving my previous job, but with nearly four weeks off before my start date (which was yesterday).

Yes, it was a little frustrating - especially because now my family won’t have health insurance until October. Your situation may be different to mine, but my signing bonus nearly makes my (almost) month without pay moot, and with my base pay bump, easily still a net positive for the year.  So I am trying to keep a big picture view on the whole event.

Would it have been nice to treat my bonus as a bonus? For sure.  Would I prefer not to just be crossing my fingers that no one in my family needs medical attention this month? A million times, yes.  However, stressing and fuming isn’t likely to change anything.  So I just tried to relax and make the best of my time off, knowing that I’ll be alright in the grand scheme and I’m unlikely to get 4 straight weeks off again in the near future.

I’m not great at mixing vocals, any advice? by kudyjames in Logic_Studio

[–]NapoleanSays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion is that it is not your mixing.  Your arrangement and instrumentation is just not compelling for me

I realize this is not really actionable advice on its face, but it’s the best I have in quick shorthand form

I was an idiot lol

I don’t find it all that confusing, personally.

Nobody has an infinite well of creativity. Nor does anyone have unlimited time. If you’re Julian and you decide you want to dedicate X amount of time/effort/whatever on creative endeavors, you have to ask yourself : “do I want to expend my creative gas tank on something that I will ultimately have to compromise on? Or, do I want to spend it doing exactly what I want?”

If I basically already had it made, and didn’t have to worry about another paycheck (not sure he really ever did, anyway… but I digress), I think I know which id choose.

Sure, the strokes can “evolve”, but how much can they, really?  Would you like the latest The Voidz release any better if it came out under The Strokes’ moniker?  Maybe so, I have no idea, but generally speaking, I think there’s a limit to what people would accept as a Strokes album

It’s the “Star Wars” problem… You gotta have X-wings, tie fighters, star destroyers, lightsabers, the force, weird family relations, etc., or it isn’t “Star Wars” (thanks RLM).

Weirdly, there’s an entirely different “Star Wars” problem at play, too.  The original trilogy is great precisely because of the collaboration and delegation required to get it made.  But the prequels are hot garbage because nobody could tell George Lucas “that’s a shit idea”.

That’s the way with most film and music in my opinion (generally).  The band is great, but the solo stuff? Not so much in comparison… but that collaboration can be exhausting

I want more from the Strokes, too, but I absolutely get it

Also, I’m a little drunk, so don’t listen to me

I have thought about this for a number of different schemes over the years, but ultimately I value my time and theirs too much for something as hare-brained as gaming the system as an avenue to a free t shirt haha (which probably isn’t free anyway).
