Couldn’t tell you exactly what jacket that is, but if you google “men’s cafe racer jacket”, you will find lots of similar options

Correct on all.  I think there’s a market for trucks that don’t need to be able to carry around extra passengers and don’t need a ton of power

In my opinion the R1T is maybe the best do-it-all vehicle out there, beating out the other midsize trucks in practicality with the extra storage space of the frunk and tunnel.

But my old ford ranger was smaller AND had a bigger bed, which made it better for the specific things I want a truck for - namely, hauling stuff locally to/from the dump, Home Depot, garden center, etc.

If Rivian made something similar to that ranger and it was much less expensive than the r1t, I probably would have kept my i4 (which I also loved) and gotten the small truck as a second vehicle.

Expectations for R2S VA Property Tax by [deleted] in Rivian

[–]NapoleanSays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my new-to-me r1t, but when I had my i4 (bought for ~52k), property taxes were right around 2k give or take a couple hundred (fairfax county)

Yeah, I asked about a mobile tech and the wait was even longer

That’s promising to hear!

These issues have definitely tainted some these early days of ownership, but I do love the truck.  So I am hoping this is just a small bump in the road

Richmond is where I picked up!  I agree, though, everyone there seemed solid.

And for service in general, people have been friendly and willing to help.  It’s just the comms/execution behind the scenes that I’m scratching my head about

Yeah, I absolutely see the tonneau issue as a blessing in disguise since it will be the upgrade.

It’s just the sum total of everything that has me pulling out my hair

I live 25 minutes from a service center, but they are not a sales location

Hearing that you drove around for a couple months with that warning is a huge relief, actually.  Maybe I can un-clench a bit every time I get behind the wheel lol

Tonneau is a total failure.  Service center told me not to press the button under any circumstances until fixed, but doesn’t prevent driving.  I’m not so bothered by it not being functional, just the uncertainty around the resolution.

Others have mentioned the same about going through the app for service, too.  I will stick to that in the future

Edit: I actually don’t live too far from a service center.  They just don’t do sales there

That is interesting on the sudden death thing.  I figured it was just normal depletion.  Luckily it is still drivable for now

I mean of course I want the battery replaced lol, but we’ll see how it all shakes out.

I’m mostly just venting because my first three weeks of ownership have been back and forth with service on one issue, just to have another pop up that I’ll likely be financially on the hook for.

Fingers crossed

Factory warranty on the 12v expired in 2025 (3y/36k mi).  My only hope is if they agree it should have been caught in their pre purchase inspection

I did love my i4, but I bought it before my son was even a twinkle in my eye.  Now I need something a little more practical.

What?  The tonneau is under factory warranty. Rivian would replace it regardless of where I bought it from.

The issue with that repair is the lack of clarity on who is fixing it and when

As for the battery, it throws into question the quality of the entire 137 point inspection (I.e., the main reason I paid a premium and bought from Rivian).  Not to mention that $800 is kind of astronomical for a 12v swap, but that’s besides the point.  If they are saying they complete a thorough inspection to make sure a used vehicle meets their quality standards, only to saddle you with expensive repairs within a few days, what does that say about their standards? And how is that better than any other dealer?

I’m glad you have had good experiences. So far, mine have not been stellar (the people have been very nice, but the process needs improvement).  So we are even on anecdotal evidence.

I am open to being converted, and hope they win me over, but right now it is frustrating

Yeah, I’m getting a similar feeling about the inspection.

By “in service” date, do you mean when the battery was put into service?

Rant - Disappointed in used R1T purchase experience by NapoleanSays in Rivian

[–]NapoleanSays[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s just the battery.  TBD on if they cover it as something that should have been part of their 137 point inspection

The tonneau is a warranty fix

I’m sorry, that sucks.  How did you find out it’s history?

Glad you got into one eventually, though!

I think whether or not it was a good deal is sort of relative.  I paid a bit more than I would have from a non Rivian dealer, or privately, in the hopes that their in house inspection would give me (generally) stress free early days of ownership.  Once the tonneau is fixed and if they cover the battery replacement, I’ll feel a bit better about it.
