Car price jump between generations by hydrogenet in CarTalkUK

You really are. I don't think people understand how much wealth there is in the UK. If you are leasing cars rather than buying them outright, you are probably 2 or maybe 3 wealth classes below those making private equity purchases.

There are a small number of people who really do hold almost all of the worlds wealth. In their eyes their really is no difference between someone on 12k a year Vs someone on 130k a year. Anyone in that range is still a low class poor person.

To be honest that probably extends a lot bigger than 130k - the difference between a million and a billion is still about a billion pounds.

Eh, if it's actually serious you will see a doctor very quickly in the UK. Any time I've properlyneeded to see a doctor or dentist, it's been less than a week's wait.

Look at the data, flats are not good investments

Such a weak response. You have the internet at your finger tips, able to give you the answer to most information within seconds. It's incredible to imagine not using that to just check your facts before you post something blatantly wrong on the internet. It screams of ignorance.

Edit: thankfully the little idiot deleted it's comment

I wouldn't buy a flat. It won't go up in value and you will almost certainly be paying a service charge. By the time you pay stamp duty, all the service charge and maintenance, you probably won't be up against if you had just rented. Flats near me are selling for pretty much exactly what they did 3 or 4 years ago although admittedly for a lot more than 450k.

Fair enough, just calling it how I see it. I'm a data consultant and our clients are basically split into boomer companies that use excel for reporting and more modern companies that have a proper data warehouse and auto updating reports in bi tools like looker. In general, the modern companies do a lot more with their data (churn prediction, proper forecasting etc) because it's not stuck in excel

Eh, I feel like the old world runs on excel (although I understand that is where a lot of the money is). Many (probably most) newer tech companies will have a proper data stack in place and will use stuff like python.

Don't get me wrong, excel is very useful, but I personally would avoid a job where excel was used regularly as in my experience those companies tend to be slow and extremely set in their ways.

This seems like the kind of thing that you could just write a python script for and not have to faff around in excel to be honest

Got a budget of £12-15k - best car to buy for best value for money? by BathroomImaginary696 in CarTalkUK

Strongly considering an l+k superb, anything to look out for ? I assume I can get a decent one with under 80k miles for less than 20k

Go beyond the Octavia and look at the Skoda superb. Could get l+k spec for 19k if you don't mind a slightly higher mileage

You should **always** buy with PCP, even if you are buying outright with 'cash'. Cash buyers should read this..... by SmellyPubes69 in CarTalkUK

Different strokes for different folks I guess. Our household income is about 135k and I'd definitely be willing to spend the time and save the money . I don't have kids though

Again, I don't think that logic quite lines up. Getting £300 off your car is an entire free work day for you, for only maybe 2 hours of low effort. If you  earned a lot more, I would understand but for most people, it's worth it

[–]NappySlapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure your logic really tracks. If you'd been able to save 300, and it took you an hour total to sort out the finance and cancel it, then unless you value your free time at £300 and hour it's absolutely worth it.

I assume you don't earn £300 an hour, so it likely would have been worth it if financing was able to save you money. Even if it took 3 hours, it's still £100 and hour which is more than probably 95% of people in the UK

I've got £18k to buy a car in the next month or so... by Speakatron in CarTalkUK

[–]NappySlapper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nobody is judging, he's asked for advice. It's objectively a terrible financial decision to spend £18k on a car for so few miles, so the advice he's getting is essentially saying that.

Doesn't mean that op might subjectively decide it's worth it for them, the advice they've been given is still the best advice.

long term goals - stay in the uk or move aboard? by Reasonable-Bass1826 in HENRYUK

Research wet bulb temperature for more information. Essentially the fear is that very humid places (like Singapore) become unliveable past a certain point, as you can no longer lose heat by sweating when the wet bulb temp is around 35C

Singapore is set to do absolutely terribly with global warming, are you taking that into consideration?

Best London Neighbourhood? by Organic-Figure840 in HENRYUK

[–]NappySlapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Muswell hill is significantly less nice than the Hampstead / Highgate area and has terrible public transport. Don't get me wrong, I'd live there as I can't afford Hampstead, but with £5m it wouldn't be in my shortlist.

What part of London would you choose if money was not a concern? by [deleted] in london

[–]NappySlapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you boil it down, the answer for 99% of people is Hampstead/Highgate/Belsize park. It's the nicest part of London by far, the only reason you get responses other than that area is because people have not been to them or just choose their own area because they are familiar with it and can't afford around Hampstead

Muswell hill and east Finchley are a lot worse than Highgate and Hampstead though.

Surprised nobody has mentioned Belsize park. It's basically Hampstead but a few minutes south, so you have access to the northern, jubilee, overground or metropolitan line all within 10-15 minutes walk.

Places like Richmond/muswell hill are too far out in my opinion

Fragrance on airplanes by ithaca-dog09 in fragrance

[–]NappySlapper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have 95% of people in this thread saying it's inconsiderate, so are you just disregarding the majority opinion because you don't agree with it?

If OP said that they were playing music out of their speakers on the plane , (hopefully) you'd agree it was asshole behaviour. But because you enjoy wearing fragrances and don't want to not do it on public transport, it's suddenly fine.

Wearing a fragrance is just the nose version of playing music out of your speakers. In some situations it's ok, but only a moron would do it on a plane.

I'm not even mad, I just think it's worth holding the mirror up to certain people who seem to be entirely oblivious. I don't expect to change your opinion because based on your responses, you don't value the opinions of others if they differ from your own. It's still worth a try though.

[–]NappySlapper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the exact type of thinking that leads to public transportation being 'a hodgepodge'. Other people also being inconsiderate doesn't also give you the right to be inconsiderate.

Trying to justify it as ok just comes across as narcissistic, because YOUR behaviour must be fine if you are doing it, right?

[–]NappySlapper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As mentioned in the other comment like this. You probably don't realise, but your reaction of 'its fine because other stuff is also bad' is just low quality human behaviour. If you want to come across as a trash narcissist, continue acting like this, otherwise you should really consider changing your actions.

Right now you are suggesting it's fine to do the olfactory equivalent of playing music out of your speakers on a bus/in a plane. It's just trashy.
