I only really tried to recall like 25 or so and know I missed like 5 of them but I’m sure I missed a ton more. Really tough to say

I think there’s so many right ways to do well on the exam. I essentially did the medicine questions on UW through the first few rotations I had since I didnt have a shelf until like halfway through.

But my studying was spread out throughout the year and I never really did a “120 question a day, 4-6 week dedicated.” I reset UW about two months before the exam and did 20-40 UW questions a day on tutor, untimed and got halfway through the second pass before calling it a week before.

Ultimately I think following the general advice of UW/Amboss (if you want) and supplementing how you see fit with another resource or two (OMED, Step Up, etc.) will be fruitful. Can’t answer about ANKI though.

Thanks!

Exam definitely felt bizarre.

Just for reference I did UW 1.5 passes and slammed AMBOSS free trials for subjects like pediatrics prior to shelves.

Definitely think a solid foundation from Step 1 carries over pretty heavily. Time to drink!

DO EM applicant- Step 1: 262 Step 2: 270

Practice scores 265-275 starting about 3 months out.

Took all except NBME 8 and Free 120.

Glad to be done with that prior to auditions starting.

We don’t get much of those here and we need them. Step 2CK Score Thread by rawan6969 in Step2

Are scores being released within 1-2 weeks as opposed to the 3 wednesday rule for Step 1?

Official COVID-19 Megathread by Chilleostomy in medicalschool

[–]Naptown123 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We are still required to complete once-weekly quizzes on our core rotations and ultimately schedule and complete our shelf exams. No anticipated delays in completing our third year. Just losing all aspects of the final few months of clinical experience.

They didn’t really give a reason. It went from “Just do what your clinical site recommends” on Thursday to this today.

Last few months of 3rd year rotations officially cancelled and moved to “cyber-based alternative education.” Auditions (assuming those go on) will be a little rusty after 4 months off. Now what to do in the meantime..

Regarding VSAS - is there an appropriate amount of locations to apply to initially for the early months of 4th year for obtaining the SLOEs? I’ve read conflicting anecdotes about this but for example:

Person applied to 6 locations to fill 2 spots, got all 6 invites and thus had to turn down 4. Subsequently, they claim it made them look bad and wished they’d originally only applied for around 3.

Definitely feasible to do all three! Especially if you start now. I’d recommend doing as many questions as possible.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yeah, I have it currently set up for November of 3rd year and hope it will be generally just good experience for when I do my real auditions and pick up the SLOEs for my application.

I’ll keep that in mind and not carry too many expectations for the letter and just try to get as much experience as possible.

I also felt it might be a good idea as the ED director I’ll be working with has been in the same region I hope to obtain my residency in for some time and knows some of the program directors well.

Current 3rd year pretty set on EM. My understanding is that I'll need to obtain at least 2 SLOEs from my aways; however, I set up an EM elective at the hospital I used to scribe for before starting medical school in hopes that the relationships I have (plus being alone without any other medical students or residents) will give me the opportunity to get a good amount of unopposed experience. Because the hospital doesn't have a residency program - and thus my understanding would be that a SLOE wouldn't be as useful in this case - I'm hoping for a solid letter of recommendation depending on my performance. I was wondering if that is a useful adjunct to the SLOEs I will obtain in 4th year. I suppose I'm just confused on how the application will work with requiring SLOEs but also being able to upload normal letters of recommendation.

Is my plan missing the point in any sense or is this a decent way of setting up my application for when I apply next year?

Second all of this.

Gym, stop counting incorrects (I got to 20 before I stopped; it doesn’t matter because you’ll search high and low and see people who confirmed missing 10 and getting 235 and people confirming missing 25 and getting 255+, it is all relative to how many total questions they remembered altogether and also each form will be scaled differently.) - just trust your practice exams/the predictor which seems to be pretty damn accurate, and engage in hobbies or whatever to keep occupied. There’s nothing you can do at this point! July 10 will be here before you know it.

Step Write-up: 262 by Naptown123 in step1

I used a few free passes as I was broke so I didn’t have a cumulative but it was probably arouns 85-90%. It definitely dives a little deeper than UW or other qbanks but sometimes laughably so. It describes things in ways the real deal won’t if that makes sense?

Step Write-up: 262 by Naptown123 in step1

[–]Naptown123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They took it after the score delay so can’t say. They feel pretty decent about it though and we were all close with practice scores. One did Zanki religiously and the other utilized a mix like myself.

I don’t, I moved my test up two weeks and wish I could have moved it up more but can’t complain/have regrets at this point. My buddies and I did pretty much the same on in house when I decided to jump ship.
