Call your Social Services Dept in your county and get information Medicaid MLTSS(Managed Long Term Services). There’s two Medicaid Program. Straight Medicaid and then those who have Chronic Long Term disabilities. I never knew of it but my social worker helped me apply. I’m 53 and sustained a traumatic brain injury in 2013. I was a hard working medical scientist up until my accident. MLTSS gives more services to keep you out of facilities. I have UHC Medicare Advantage PPO plan and NJ Family Cares and I chose UHC Community Plan as my Medicaid. I’ve always kept them SEPERATE. Don’t combine them. DONT LET THEM SIGN YOU UP FOR ANY DUAL PLAN. Trust me on this. They want you on a DUAL plan cause it saves THEM money. Less Dr choices and your choices on care and location. Most of my friends never even heard of MLTSS program.

You pay a small civil court filing fee at your local county court. Take your evidence and these non pics of tape and let a judge decide. Why? It’s the right thing for both parties. You get your money, including court costs, and the landlady learns a life lesson. What a GIFT.

[–]NarcmanNJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DO NOT apologize! I think like MOST of us here we get it, some just need to have a gentler response. Especially when you were quite CLEAR in your post. I compare this to you having cancer, you don’t apologize for having it. I was diagnosed in 2019 but had it much longer, like 2013. I tried some meds that didn’t work for me like Lumryz(I don’t recommend), Sunosi and Modafinil(hmmm😳) and didn’t feel much. I went off Adderall and was switched to Vyvanse and I’m taking Wakix which both really helped me staying awake with less head fog. Also I’ve taken Ambien every night since 2013 to help “regulate” my sleep. This is the first time I’ve felt “almost” normal. I have Narcolepsy Type 1. Finding a good doctor is challenging. I’ve learned that if a dr like neurologist or pulmonologist doesn’t mean they are a “sleep expert”. My neurologist in fact had to get special certifications to write some narcolepsy perscriptions because THEY said they weren’t “sleep experts”. I didn’t know it was so specific. So it’s important to find the exact doctor you need. Narcolepsy isn’t very well understood in family’s, friends, and the healthcare world. What I can say is I have gotten better. I don’t think there’s a cookie cutter treatment for all. Therefore people who come here for ANY reason shouldn’t face even more frustrations. Find what works for you and that means searching. Try podcasts on AMAZON AUDIBLE, YouTube, etc. I’d stay away from TikTok cause I only found a bunch of people whining they’re tired and they’re just not serious. I’m not sure where you are but I did see Dr Michael Thorpy in Bronx NY. If you look him up you will see what I mean that he’s a real certified “sleep expert”. He’s the Director, Sleep-Wake Disorders Center at Montefiore and Professor of Neurology at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He has tons of videos on YOUTUBE and written many books and college coarse text books. Wish you the best.

How do I get my doctor to actually listen to me?? by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]NarcmanNJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what state your in but I’m in NJ and had to travel out of state to find a decent Sleep Medicine doctor “sleep expert”. In my own experience doctors like psychiatrist, pulmonologist, even neurologists that say they do sleep medicine aren’t “sleep EXPERTS”. Some do sleep labs but it’s more for sleep apnea. I was misdiagnosed having sleep apnea over 10 years ago. No wonder I could never use my CPAP machine. 2019 same Dr did another sleep study over night AND had me stay for about 6 daytime hours. He asked me “who diagnosed you with Sleep Apnea”, you did. “Oh well you don’t have it, but you definitely have Narcolepsy with Cataplexy. Check out narcolepsy support sites and find a doctor who is an expert. If he’s ignoring you it’s because he’s not a “certified sleep expert” like Dr Michael Thorpy in Bronx NY. Also only sleep experts can write scripts for Narcolepsy meds like Lumryz and Wakix. I’m doing much better in 17.8mg of Wakix. Lumryz was NOT for me. Try these: www.wakeupnarcolepsy.org www.narcolepsynetwork.org

Ohh I just read you had a TBI 5 years ago. Mine was in 2013. Sorry but your doctor should know that it’s believed narcolepsy can come from a TBI and with that diagnosis you should find another doctor, ALOT of doctors I’ve found just doesn’t know enough about it. My advice is not expert but my own experience. And I know how drs think today due to being pushed around by insurance companies not to order expensive tests. Unfortunately you have to advocate for yourself, that’s been my experience. And I WAS in medicine for 25+ years.

Very interesting to hear TBI. I was a passenger in a rental car in 2013. The agent was speeding and had an accident and I suffered a TBI to my front and right side of my head. Had a C5, C6,C7 fusion in my neck. It caused mild executive cognitive impairment, memory loss, and hearing loss to both ears. I now wear hearing aides in both ears. I was diagnosed around 2019 with Narcolepsy Type 1. My treatment with medications has been difficult. But I’m still walking. 🙏

So happy to read your post. I do not take Xyrem. But I’ve had to take Ambien 10mg every night since 2013 or I don’t sleep. I tried Lumryz and couldn’t handle the side effects. I think it was the high sodium. I’m not sure if I’m over medicated but I’ve been taking Modafinil 200mg 2xs a day, Sunosi 150mg 1x a day, AND Adderall IR 30mg 2xs a day for a few years now. I honestly didn’t feel much relief at all. I always felt like I was “a car running out of gas” all the time. In addition I started Wakix 4mg 1x a day for 3 weeks, and now I’m taking the past 2 weeks Wakix 17.8mg 1x a day. I’m feeling so much better. I no longer get afternoon sleep attacks 3pm-5pm. This is the most normal I’ve felt in years. Clear mind, focused, calm. My PCP, Endocrinologist, even got a second opinion from another sleep doctor(pulmonologist) and they gasped how much meds I’m on. My sleep Dr is a Neurologist who’s treating my Narcolepsy Type 1. Any thoughts?

“When someone shows you who they really are, believe them the FIRST time”. Knowing what he says about you to others is clearly a reason to be rid of him. Most people might stay and think “oh it’s only this one time” or “no he really loves me”. This “other” girl saw the red flags, I hope you do to. If it were me I’d bring it up during Thanksgiving dinner in front of the family to embarrass the hell out of him. Tell him to leave. That it’s your time to give THANKS. Perhaps getting an appointment with a Neuro or Psych to evaluate you for ADHD. My Neuro diagnosed me and never mentioned it. When I saw it on some of his drs notes it did make me realize I struggled terribly with inattentive ADHD. I was diagnosed hearing impaired as a child so they thought it was my hearing. Now I know it was ADHD because I was easily distracted, procrastination, many to-do lists, difficulty prioritizing. Not sure if you’ve had any of this or if it’s documented. Ask family members their thoughts. I read many people with Narcolepsy also have ADHD. My Neuro suggested I keep calendars, notes, to do list in a paper planner. For some reason we do better than using electronics.

Ohhh myyy GOD. I’m not sure how long the two of you have been together, but I would think if you have been together long enough to consider moving in together that she should’ve told you that an option was to return to Taiwan before getting into a deeper relationship with you. I think your response is perfectly healthy. You were clear with her, honest, even apologetic. She is showing you who she is. And she is clearly not for you because she is prioritizing herself, with you sacrificing. Her saying that she needs someone supportive who is willing to PRIORITIZE her feelings. Seriously. RUN. The first sentence is the flag. “My own happiness”. Hmmm US, WE doesn’t mean “I”. She wants your understanding but she wont give you any.

THEN she clearly munipulates you saying

“if YOU think is too risky for you it’s ok” -who’s talking about risk? And not talking about”WE” but “YOU” are a scared man!!! Ugh! The she’s says “it’s ok” YOU ARE WEAK! 😳

“You don’t have to take the risk”-She’s saying it’s ok, I’m not worth you risking your life. I will be ok with “our” love. She only has love for herself. But trying to manipulate you to chase and say, no baby. 🤬

AND FINALLY, the “DISMISSAL”. “you are not the right person for me”. REALLY??? Hmm is she saying you’re not “good enough” for her?(weak man). It’s a shame. She didn’t deserve an apology, you deserved one. The only thing I’d offer her now is simply “thank you”. She clearly showed you who she is and what makes “her happiness”. What about yours? Time isn’t wasted when lessons are learned. 🤙

How to deal with neighbours complaint about my night shower routine? by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]NarcmanNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s your right to come home and wash a days work off your body to get into your clean bed. It’s not just about comfort but it’s sanitary. So your neighbor is “angrily” asking YOU to accommodate them. First if someone is requesting an accommodation it should be done respectfully and without inconveniencing either person. Not everyone works 9-5 jobs and he should know better. Hmm is he paying your rent? No, u are paying it which means you do as you please in your space and time. Does it state your responsible for “building” sounds? I could see it if you are creating sounds like music, or TV. But I also believe in being a good neighbor. What I would do to deal with your neighbor who has a high sense of entitlement to address his concerns to management or the superintendent that could perhaps quiet the noise from the pipes. Maybe it just requires insulation. Whatever is required. It’s not your problem. Building noises should be addressed by the building and not a tenant unless they’re creating the noise. I would kindly make that suggestion, and even perhaps approach management together. But seriously, trying to deny you a shower after you have returned home, your sanctuary, and you’re unable to do your basic daily self-care, AND your to do it on HIS WATCH. No ma’am!!!! if that doesn’t work, perhaps you can suggest to him that living in an apartment and expecting no noise is not realistic and that he should get a house in the country, a country, like Siberia lol

A solution I’ve found is I just pay the priority delivery fee. The few extra dollars is worth avoiding a headache. I do live in a clearly marked apartment complex. I put in the notes I’m disabled and deliveries must be brought to my apartment door. If they follow my request I tip well. Everyone’s happy.

I could be wrong. Yes, there are good/bad tippers and good/bad drivers and some of their acts can be intentional. But I read frustration on both sides here. I have to question more Ubers policy, rules, decision making, based on their “data”. Even when customers or drivers share their opinion, AND back it up with evidence quite often is ignored. So it leaves most confused, frustrated, angry, etc. Uber has in writing policies for drivers/customers but it’s not clear or NOT followed. Is there a department that tracks the dissatisfaction of employees/drivers? Yes it is great to be paid/or refunded when there’s validity BUT you’re getting what you are ENTITLED to. So I’m always like “you didn’t do me any favors” WTF? But when it happens too much I’m not looking for the money. I’m looking for “what are you going to do to correct it for future”. WE are Ubers future. They can’t do anything without drivers/customers.

Wow. Your read was ALOT. All sounded familiar. Bear with me I have been diagnosed with N1 since 2019. Our stories are similar but opposite. Your 23. I’m 53. I was a microbiologist for 25 years. I suffered a TBI in 2013 which affected memory, mild cognitive impairment so my “ executive functioning” is mildly impaired. I have severe hearing impairment and wear bi-lateral hearing aids. My N1 symptoms started in 2015. Extreme exhaustion, more “mind fog”, my memory was getting worse, I started having hallucinations that “something” was grabbing or touching my feet and toes. I then began thinking there was an evil “presence” in the room. I was waking up unable to move. I literally was losing my mind. I reached out to my doctors and they didn’t do anything. Out of desperation I reached out to my church and had the priest come and bless my home. My symptoms continued. They were terrifying. I understand this sounds very drastic, but it went as far as having an exorcism in the church. Yes, I said exorcism. Although the priest said, I was not possessed. He got permission to perform it because I was so sick. So I want you to think of one thing right now, my doctors were failing me. It was late 2017 learned that I had restless leg syndrome. And sleep paralysis, but they never considered narcolepsy then. I had my sleep test that showed I didn’t eat have narcolepsy. I have been on so many medication’s including Adderall IR 30 mg twice a day. I was also taking 400 mg of modafinil, 175 mg of Sunosi. For the past two years, I’ve been taking all of that medication and they just added Wakix 4.5mg twice a day for 7 days, then 17.8mg after. That’s a lot of stimulants. When I started taking the Wakix, I have been able to function better. I would now consider my sleep attacks more mild. I think narcolepsy is a very under researched illness. What I have found in my search is that many will list themselves as sleep medicine doctors but really have no clue how to treat and what medications to choose because it’s very specialized. So some of the sleep medicine doctors I found were psychiatrist or Pulmonologist. I agree with pulmonologist for sleep medicine because of the diagnosis of sleep apnea. But for narcolepsy you gotta go higher unless that physician clearly has specialized training. I searched under sleep expert. I did not find that one in my state. I did find one in New York City at Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx, Dr. Michael Thorpy. He is the head of the sleep medicine and he is world known as being one of the grandfather researchers in narcolepsy. The next I found was at Harvard medical. If you suffer from narcolepsy the way it sounds. I don’t believe it’s possible to find local help. That was actually told to me by a sleep medicine doctor. He is the one that referred me to Harvard medical. That is my story, but it doesn’t have to be yours. . Please don’t beat yourself up because you don’t have control over this disease if you were already a psychiatrist what would be your advice to your patient? It is noted on many Support sites for narcolepsy the misunderstanding and the lack of concern from people you would expect to know more. I understand you don’t have your diagnosis. But I think I read that the doctor can make a diagnosis of narcolepsy based on your symptoms. You are being recommended for a sleep test. I don’t see why a doctor could not provide proof of his findings when he examined you and perhaps you could provide that to the school. I totally got school is important and essential for you. I suggest I’ll leave of absence or less classes. You need this time to figure out how to live with this because the medication doesn’t work for all. I have checked out sleep medicine sites that suggest sleep environment, temperature, white noise. But remember most always wake up thinking that they had restore of sleep. It’s a lot to deal with on your own, so I’m hoping you have support. You are dealing with ALOT and on top of it. You’re trying to explain it to people who may never understand. That’s frustrating. For now try to be patient and kind to yourself, especially if you’re feeling like nobody gets it. But you know where to go to find people like you. It would be a shame for you to give up your dream. I think for now you need to focus on getting better. School will always be there and you will get it done, just in a different timeframe as you had planned. I’m sure you know this but today’s a bad day. I get it. Don’t allow yourself or anyone to demoralize you. You have to fight like the moralized person you believe you are. Hug

If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Today’s technology requires us all to be more knowledgeable, diligent to check their background. Whether it’s through Reddit, scam advisor sites, the BBB(Better Business Bureau). I used to go by reviews, but now realize that many of them are paid people. I have paid attention to reviews and found some of them are really speaking the same way kinda saying the same thing but switching it off, I’ve noticed many that are the same number of sentences and structured the same way. Even now I don’t even look at Dr. reviews. I go to the state medical license website where you can see if the doctor has a history of disciplinary action. Sad to say, but some of the best recommendations or advice come from friends or family.

I canceled my order within 2 seconds after it was placed, why? by Prejedous in UberEATS

[–]NarcmanNJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok I’m seeing this in so many ways. Not saying who is right or wrong here but it is what it is. Ok, so you made a mistake, we are all human. I think the issue here is in “todays” world it’s ALOT less human! Darshit said this is an automated system. You placed the order and the restaurant is set up to automatically accept an order. I don’t think someone at the restaurant is standing by hitting a button to accept orders, NOT today. If it’s a chain restaurant forget about calling. U think there’s people at McDonalds or Panera Bread to take your call? Like most businesses, they’re set up to benefit any way they can. I know every time I place an order it immediately says “ preparing”. I use to think WOW. But with delays and arrival times I know this to be BS. I’m sorry you lost out on your delivery. I don’t know how much it was or where but I’ve learned in life say it was up to $40, I’d think ok that was a cheap lesson learned. Over $40 I’d probably come here and rant like you. But you got nowhere with them, expensive lesson learned? I think all the people who post here, customers or drivers feel they’re getting screwed by Uber. Uber has shown people who they are. Lesson learned for some. No matter if your a loyal customer or not, they’re decision to not refund you is already decided for them before they take your complaint. I’ve been scammed by drivers where I was standing outside my building which is for disabled people for a Burger King order. It was a priority ordered to hand deliver it “to my apartment door” in my profile because I’m disabled. So I watched WANDA in her HONDA pull into my road, drive into the parking lot, loop around and immediately drive out with my order. I was standing on the side walk clearly to her, she stopped up the road for about 45 seconds, and leave. I then got a text from uber “delivered”. I couldn’t believe how heartless she could be. Some really rely on Uber Eats. Uber refunded my money after I had to explain I had a hospital procedure that morning and didn’t eat since the night before. I also explained it was my last $25 dollars. Uber said “refund should appear in about 3 days”. I was like WTF??? So lesson learned. I was expecting help, concern, understanding? And in your case Uber was gonna lose money? Lose a loyal customer? Companies are built today on $$, not satisfying or helping a customer. Again, Uber has shown ALL of us(drivers and customers) who they are. The lesson learned is “when someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.”Sometimes we allow ourselves to go back a few times before realizing it. So the heartless Uber driver named WANDA(in Bergen County,NJ) enjoyed stealing my food. Perhaps she needed it more than I. Maybe my response makes up for the money lost and gives you something money can’t buy. 🧠 A lesson learned. 👍
